The Great Cafeteria Scandal of 2016

I forgot my lunch today. Bummer. I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on much. So my only option was our cafeteria.

Being extra cost conscious today, I picked over the menu with a fine toothed comb looking for the most judicious option.

What is that? The wrap is only $5.50. The last few times I've purchased a wrap, it was $9.75 with a coke. Something isn't correct.

So I go down to the cafeteria and walk up to the cashier. "Hello," I say. "How much is a wrap."

"$7.50," she says.

"Ah, but your menu says differently."

We discuss the discrepancy and she volunteers to approach a manager.

"If the menu says $5.50, he pays $5.50," he tells the cashier. Thrilled, I go get my wrap.

As I return back up to the cashier to pay, I see the cashier I had spoken to talking on the phone. She is talking with the business manager. The business manager I can hear telling her to just charge me what the menu says. The cashier looks displeased.

The cashier rings me up. I see various numbers jump across the screen.

"I'm sorry. We can only charge you $5 for the wrap today because we don't have the option to charge $5.50 for a wrap."

"Ok ma'am. Do what you need to."

I purchase my food. And the cashier saysas I leave "I just want to let you know, you're not the first person to notice this, but you're the first person to have the nerve to be confrontational about it."
