Well the areas where there issues with high crime are in or near the St. George area. So what's your point? If anything, incorporation and breakaway district will weaken the schools in BR proper. And BTW, the murder rate in the parish dropped 20% last year.

I don't think the new city would have a problem patrolling the area and sniffing out crime. If you know about city cops they often allow certain areas to deal drugs so they can get more information. They actually might be protected by the city cops so you never know. Pure speculation on my part with that.

Great the murder rate went down. It was astronomical and still is above average. There are many studies that poor education and being poor lead to more crime. Changing the poor education will allow the poor a chance to improve their life. I see a moral aspect to this argument that is greater than this racists crap Russian speaks every so often.

The only students being bussed in to WHS come from the Gardere area. The Gardere area is part of the proposed SG city & school district so they will continue to attend WHS if SG happens.

On the other hand, when Lee High reopens the Gardere students are scheduled to move to Lee High if plans don't change before LHS reopens.

So yes the demographics of the school would change.
So, no, they won't. See above.

Read the sheriff's patrol numbers I posted previously in this thread which I took from the EBRSO website. Inform yourself.

Is this a serious question? Are you actually of the opinion that they've done their best?

Well, the deseg order caused the system to have the poor demographics that it currently has. Any school system around the country with similar demographics achieves the same poor results that EBRPSS has. I don't go to school board meetings or follow every single article related to EBRPSS. I would just like to know some specific things that EBRPSS has done that you think correspond to "sitting on their arse".

If you don't like it, don't vote for it. If you like it, vote for it.

It's real simple.

You are a moron sir. You keep talking about the budget and you don't know what your talking about. Just like some of these council members. They really have no clue how the budget works. St George will have a surplus of money if incorporated. We will make Baton Rouge leadership look retardt if we incorporate and they know that. I haven't seen any accurate budget numbers here yet. For the people on the fence about this please talk to the leaders on both sides and make up your mind for yourselves who is right. Russian is communist don't listen to him

Well, I do think it is a serious concern.
I agree completely. It's a topic worth discussion.

the impression I'm getting from some of the St. George supporters is tinkering on "frick BR, let the rats have it".
Yeah, some probably do feel that way, but it's probably due to selfish motivations. They want better schools for their kids and aren't worried about the consequences on others.

- LSUpimp for instance. His kids are at BRHS. He doesn't want SG to happen, b/c he lives in the SG area and his kids wouldn't be able to continue to go to BRHS. Totally understandable.
But b/c of his choice, all of the other parents that don't have kids in BRHS will have sub-standard education for their kids. Unintended consequences.
quote:

who knows when the same problems BR faces eventually show up on our doorstep.
True, but someone made the point that keeping young people and families in SG instead of going to Ascension or Livingston will help bolster spending and revenue for BR city.
If all of the revenue basis leaves EBR, it might end up being worse.

Funny joke, but he is biased. Super biased.

True. Although they may be more informed than the average resident, they don't truly understand all of the details. Noone does.

Maybe. Sandy Springs, GA is a good comparison for SG, and it has a surplus. But, no one really knows for sure.
Even if there is a tax increase for either the city or ISD (or even both), it would still be less than having to send your kids to private school.

Well said.

Did you list the (suspected) cons for BR if SG leaves?

Thread is too long
