Pretty sure he's mostly focused on the cons for SG.

He seems very well informed. (Although biased ) so I'm very interested in what he has to say.

So you are telling me that the only kids bussed to Woodlawn are from Gardere? That there are no other kids outside of a few miles that have to be bussed in? I'm tempted to call Woodlawn tomorrow to see if this is true.

Regardless, with their own system SG could set up policies that will take care of situations like this. This kids will realize who is boss real quick in a new city and new public system where teachers hands aren't tied.

Don't let him troll you man. He's been exposed.

Here's a good summary of Russian on the SG topic from LT:
quote:

Dude. He won't answer your points. You can nail him down on every argument with facts and hell circle around to some obscure bullshite that has nothing to do with what you said.

At some point he'll call you racist. He'll claim shite from budgets he doesn't understand.

I think in his mind as long as he has the last word he wins.
He really likes personal attacks and "gotcha" comments.

Can you just copy and paste?

I'm honestly interested.
I appreciate that, but no. I'd have to go through the same search you would. I think that was around 3 or 4 this afternoon if that helps.

In short, more fragmentation = more government. More government is usually not good. More parochial kingdoms usually benefit the kings the most. Also, fixed cost of infrastructure is better when it can be divided by a larger base. With a smaller base, higher taxes usually result.

Oh, okay. Policies against violence in schools are always helpful.

Local governments are usually more responsive to the needs of individuals. So in the case of Sandy Springs, GA, it's been a bona fide success.

I'll dig the link up for you.
Here's one... LINK

I know there's another one in here somewhere.

SG is trying to salvage itself. It's unfortunate that the new area is decided by line and not by house to house choice...BUT, you can't fault them for trying to make things better where they can.

And I'm sure BR has enough people and taxes to keep things going the same way they always have. Year after year after year. Straight down the crapper

Totally understand man. Totally.

Let me find my conversation with LSUpimp.
quote:

Posted by LSU pimp: We did that already. Two years at a very academically mediocre Dutchtown. I'm being kind. And many years before that in private school.

My concern as I have always said is THE UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES. And why after paying tens of thousands of dollars to inferior private schools and getting my arse kicked by government at EVERY level for my entire life, would I not enjoy the one high functioning State Institution that I have ever encountered? Finally something that is not catastrophically bad, can you blame me for riding it out?
quote:

Posted by me: Nope. Don't blame you one bit. You're a good parent and looking out for what's best for your kids.

But can you blame all of the other parents of SG that couldn't get their kid in BRHS for wanting something better?
quote:

Posted by LSUpimp: Absolutely not.
I'm not sure of the BRHS admission numbers. Someone in this thread quoted "300". Not exactly enough spots to service everyone.
The SG hope is that they can provide an ISD, like Zachary, that can provide quality education so you don't have to get into BRHS to get a quality education.

My life is great now. I live on 9 acres in the Highland Road area. It's my own little private paradise in the country within the city.

My fight is not for me. It's for the future of BR and even LSU, both of which I think will be harmed in the long run.

But thanks for the invitation.

I don't doubt it. I see it all the time. The decent families who want to use the public school system are all gtfo. Why not try and keep them here? Improve the public school system here.

I just haven't seen many BAD things about incorporating SG.

Lsu will be fine.

And relying on one segment of the population to carry us all is a bad idea. Haven't you read atlas shrugged?

I hope so. One fear I have is that the terrific improvements taking place north of campus clearing out the near ghetto will come to a halt. Not overnight, but it will happen, I'm afraid.

No, I haven't. I downloaded it to my Kindle months ago but I've always found other books interupting my starting it.

The schools will gradually get better with a more localized system. It will not be overnight but SG will come out better for incorporating in the long run. I hope everyone educates themselves and stays informed.

Taxes may go up, but no one knows for sure. Sandy Springs, GA has a surplus, but other areas have needed to raise taxes.
If there are increases, it won't be to the level of private schools.

If they do succeed in establishing a quality ISD, property values will go up. I'd imagine it to be a rather appealing option to young families.
You can live near the amenities provided by EBR, but you also get the education of Livingston/Ascension/Zachary.
