Maybe I'm unclear, and maybe it doesn't matter, but I'm the one doing the coaching, usually assisting. I've got a good guy to coach with, I just hate seeing other teams' coaches doing this.
Either way, I don't think it is ok to yell at and berate a 9 year old for a mistake made in a game.

He's never been to Mountain Brook or Vestavia Hills, AL either. It takes way too much money for a lower-income family to be involved with travel ball.
I just don't get it how people can post about stuff that they have absolutely zero knowledge of.
$100 says ole Rickety has never stepped foot in a park for a travel ball tournament.

Parents, here is one rule you should follow.
Shut the frick up. Don't yell at the coaches. Don't yell at the kids. Don't yell at the other team.
And for the love of God, don't yell at the umps.
That appears to be 5 rules.
But I agree. Nothing I hated worse than listening to all the idiot parents at a softball game. Even had some that had to be kicked out of the park. They would then go sit in their trucks behind the outfield fence.

it's not ok....and I've only seen one coach do this in 3 years....It's not as common as you are making it out to be

Haven't read the thread, but 95% of travel baseball people are psychos. Poor kids

Actually it's only one rule.
They all fall under "shut the frick up".

There's a reason the travel ball fad is big in the lower and lower-middle classes and hasn't crept into upper-middle and upper class circles. Most successful and secure parents don't have a need to live vicariously through their kids, so they don't assume the risk of pushing them to their physical limit for the sake of playground baseball.
The upper classes are sending their kids away to tennis boarding schools or having them spend 6 hours a day swimming laps. Or trying to set them up to be the next violin virtuoso, or pressuring them in kindergarten so they'll stay on track to get into Yale. Or spending obscene amounts on deb parties to make up for the fact that Princess didn't get named Queen of Rex.
Stupid parents living out their inadequacies via their kids doesn't have much to do with economic status, other than the way in which it plays out.

We play a shitload of travel ball too.

Upper classes hire private coaches and private lessons.

yep, I talk to my son, give him encouraging words or a pat on the back , or tell him to shake off a mistake, but I dont coach from the stands, yell at the umps or other even acknowledge the other team or their fans...Im usually caught up doing Gamechanger to to even get into and verbal insults.
We have 4 coaches/dads in the dugout that know what they are doing....I stay out of it. If they need me they will call on me......
I usually just help out at practice..and supply the beer for the tournaments.

This isn't true. Im no fanboy for travel ball BUT there are parents and teams that do it right. I work with some kids who play travel ball and they haven't picked up a ball since October

So, because you know some kids then the 95% is wrong? Makes sense.

Well these kids come from 2 separate teams. If your percentage were to hold up there would have to be at least 35 other irresponsible teams who all had crazy parents in the West Alabama area.
