Pro tip: stop moving to developments that rely on the interstate to get to and from work. The interstate was not supposed to be used like main street. I'm looking at you Shenandoah and Prairieville. I rarely experience the problems mentioned on this board because I don't take the interstate very often.
The only way to keep Ascension and Livingston commuters off the interstate is to provide a viable option. Nicholson isn't set up for it. Airline was maxed out years ago. Florida I'm guessing isn't worth a damn either.

Dont forget they tried to build a bridge in the 90s and people fought it to the point Senator Richard Baker and Mayor Tom Ed McHugh abandoned the idea becauae the people didn't want it. Same thing with Kip Holden's loop. You people should have got off the message boards and attended the meetings to drown out the NIMBYS and the organized protest groups.

But Houston and traffic and shite......
I commute 40miles and under peak hour conditions cover it in under 1 hour. TxDOT, Harris County and the HGAC have done well with transportation planning.
To be fair, the ARC and Atlanta are the worst I’ve ever seen.
LA has politics in the way. Always has. Always will. There are many smart folks at Ladotd......if people would let them do their job.

People forget this all the time. Or are too young to have any sort of historical perspective. Same with the gas tax. They don’t realize they’re already paying over .25/gallon in taxes. And what do we have to show for it? A bloated state government whose pension funds are unsustainable. But they’ll complain about the price of gas going up .5/gallon in one week.
But hey, let’s give them more money. It’s worked so well so far.

Nothing like a 30 minute bike ride in 95 degree heat in dress clothes to get to your job at the bank.

Why wont LA do Texas style toll roads? All the toll roads around Austin have been built by private companies in exchange for 20 to 30 year agreements of toll profits.
Be careful what you wish for. TX Reps are trying to put laws in place to get out of these "private tolls". People are paying hundreds of dollars a month. Prices arent going down, they have the ability to have "peak hours" rates, and they arent going to go away in 20-30 yrs. Money is used for to help pay for other toll roads in places you dont go to not just in your area.
Not the cure all. Lets hold our govts accountable for using the money properly.
Trump is even looking into stopping this toll road deals with international corps.

Id rather keep paying 120 a month to have clean roads that I can drive 85 on with confidence.
Id rather keep paying 120 a month to make sure that those roads stay ahead of the growing population.
Id rather keep paying 120 a month to make sure I dont lose the excessive amount of time sitting in my car (for some of you it seems like now 4 hours a day).
Those TX Reps must be liberals. No one complains about the roads here except when they are building new ones.

It's not just Louisiana or Baton Rouge. A pall of despair hangs over the entire I-10 corridor from Mobile to Beaumont. A Native American curse? A telegraph of human frailty? The Gulf Coast is a shithole.

we will get a committee together to study this issue and get back to you in 10 years.

This illustrates one problem with La voters and politicians. Solutions exist but LA is so backwards the "be careful what you wish for crowd comes out" and wins the day with negativity. The state makes no progress because of that attitude.
I think thousands of people who travel thru Baton Rouge would welcome any alternative to the interstate parking lot.
Private toll roads are not perfect but they do provide an alternative to doing nothing. Private toll roads also seem perfectly built for Louisiana. International contracts dont have to be given. LA politicians could still do LA politician things and give the road contracts to their political buddies as long as the buddies actually built the road.

This is exactly right. The real question people need to ask is WHY those roads aren’t worth a damn.
Answer that and you start getting close to a solution.

You’re also a goddamned idiot. You already have a gas tax. It’s been there since 1990.

Yet our roads are shite. Where has the money gone? Why is our infrastructure so antiquated?

Kind of agree, but you pay avg. of $150 per year in gas tax. That's all the money that goes to infrastructure statewide. You pay more than that for your phone per month, cable, liquor, etc. This may be hard to believe, but it costs money to build things and fix things. And that cost is only going to go up.
While other states are increasing spending on infrastructure, we sit still and try to rebuild using 1980s money. Taxes that go to stupid things or stupid. Taxes that go to build infrastructure are beneficial.

You're giving up negotiating power when buying a home by limiting yourself to a 5 mile radius of your employer.
You're giving up negotiating power in your career by limiting your job search to a 5 mile radius of your home.
You are possibly putting your future children at a disadvantage by caring more about your own commute rather than where they go to school.
And why? So you don't have to concern yourself with how your government is letting you down? Here's a secret: not many good things happen until enough people get pissed off about how shitty things are.
