Or maybe people just want nice shite. And what’s wrong with being materialistic?

I use my heated/cooled seats pretty much any time I drive

All you see if Platinum, limited, or King Ranch. No XLT.
I drive a XLT baw. Cloths seats, no touch screen radio etc. It does everything I need. Sadly those are about 10-12+ more now than they were when I bought mine 5 years ago.

Financing a rapidly depreciating, and completely unnecessary, asset to the point where you could NEVER liquidate your way out of it is fricking dumb.

My wife needs another vehicle, she may have to settle for a used Nissan Leaf.

Free money from Ford ain’t so bad.
And maybe you haven’t noticed but used vehicles trucks especially are holding value.

Why make the assumption you can't "liquidate your way out?" If you bought a new vehicle in last year or two, you are making money selling it right now

My wife's Accord is over 10 years old at this point but we decided we'd rather keep it going a few more years than buy in this market.

Step 1:
Buy a practical vehicle you can afford. The number of 4X4 F250's I see with unblemished trailer hitches is pretty alarming.
Step 2: A good metric is something you can pay off in 5 years or less. Dont stretch your monthly cash flow, either. Keep it comfortable.
Step 3: Take care of the vehicle. Keep up with the maintenance religiously.
Step 4: Keep it for a decade.
Step 5: As soon as its paid off, buy your second vehicle and repeat the process.
You're welcome.

Maybe, but thats the extremely rare exception. It wont last long. Throughout your life, you will almost ALWAYS be upside down on a financed vehicle.
Vehicles do not intrinsically appreciate.

Interest rates will rise, car prices will crash, baws will be stuck.

Last year we got a Lexus NX (2018 model) with 31K miles on it and we are paying $502/month incl. extended warranty. No money down. That is the most we have paid for a monthly note.
We spent 5 years not paying auto loans prior to that. Until they start breaking down or taking it to mechanic for random shite every 3 months you are longing for a newer ride.

Tell me you haven't been in the vehicle market recently without telling me.

If you never put any money down ever and switch vehicles every year or two, maybe.

Money doesn’t matter if you enjoy the car. Everyone has a death sentence. Enjoy the time you have.

right. A once in a lifetime pandemic related supply chain crisis has the new vehicle supply constricted, leading to a fleeting spike in used vehicle prices. And mf'ers are acting like their Platinum F250 is an investment.

I'm not in the drive a beater cars don't matter crowd, but this is incredibly short sighted.
You shouldn't drive a Mercedes if you can't afford your rent groceries and other needs - a used Nissan will do just fine.
