So they’re going to change a city name with his last name, but will they change the school named directly after him?

They're not changing the city name. This wasn't even a recommendation. It was a secondary recommendation to study the idea further.

Diversity City, TX sounds better than Austin, right?

More studies. The equality office has to justify it’s existence.

I don’t see it happenening as long as we have a Republican governor, besides it’s the fricking state capital. What’s the precedent for a major city changing its name?

If a city votes to have their own statues taken down or change their name, so be it. Isn't the ability to govern your own city the way you see fit a staple of small government?

Sadly these types have watered down "the peoples vote is their voice" when they took the "no to gay marriage" vote in CA to court, and won.

I disagree here, because the legal right to marry should not be withheld from any individual because a bunch of bigots and/or uneducated people think otherwise. I'm referring to the legal institution of marriage, not the religious ceremony. It's an apples to oranges issue. They are not the same.

I'd be willing to bet that none of my friends who consider themselves to be liberals would be in favor of renaming the city over this ridiculous premise.
