While any and every thank you note is appreciated, handwritten is ALWAYS the way to go. The gifts were given on a personal level. The Thank you notes should be as well. It really does make a deep impression when you receive a handwritten thank you note.
Now, as to whether you should be helping with this... Hmmmmm, I'm not so certain about that. Baby showers are generally a thing for the women in the family and friend group. Dads really don't need to be involved in that portion. I kinda side with you on this one. Thank you notes for a baby shower should be written by the mother to be.
