Well, I missed this.

Marathon mini gsar hasn't come off since I got it back.

Honestly wish I could rip the Japanese guts out of my deep blue and stick them in the marathon. Of my 3 autos, the marathon is by a very large margin my favorite and also keeps time the worst. It isnt bad, but it bothers me that my more costly Swiss auto is less accurate than my $100 cheapo depot one.

Is is just off more per day or does it vary significantly while worn or static? If the former a quick regulation might cure its ills.

My GSAR is about 20 years old, and other than the gas tubes falling off occasionally, it's been durable as hell. Outstanding case and crystal.

The movement always seemed kinda gritty when winding, but it kept good time.

It finally quit recently, and I could probably send it in for service and they'd likely fix fit.

Ive only had to adjust it once in a couple weeks, when i noticed it was 2 min slow. I don't like slow.

I just got it back from service, and that's about what I remember it being like before. I just need to accept it being that way.

That sounds like a simple regulation issue. If you find it is reasonably consistent over 24 hours then you might want to contact the servicer. I will accept 10 SPD fast but not slow.

That's a beauty Lange...missed the Friday thread as I was traveling for the epic Tiger Stadium 100 yrs. weekend - the old Gray Lady was rockin' and still has it for sure and I, along with 102,000 or so of my closest friends was rewarded with a nice upset win.

Also saw the spitfire UTC in the thread from CAD. I have an earlier version of the oddity that is the IWC UTC complication. I'm a GMT guy, but this is definitely a funkier version of a multi-time zone watch than I normally go for. I got this one in the early 2000's - around 2002, I think and though it rarely gets any wrist time, it has survived my capricious watch dealings over the years, I think mostly because the case is nearly the perfect size and shape, and the matte black IWC OEM gator strap I usually keep it on if fantastic. I also have the 5-link 'beads of rice" style bracelet, but don't love it because it has zero taper, and to my eye just doesn't look right on the watch.

Bizzare non sequitur:

I'll pass on a "compliment". My wife often looks over my shoulder when she passes and I am on a watch site (which this appeared to be) and she sometimes comments on the watch, this time it was "great veins". I thought it made sense 2 decades ago but she is still interested in all things vascular. My GSV looks like a garden hose down at my ankle and when she is bored and it is near her she will always palpate it. My wife may be a weirder nerd than I am.

haha...since your wife and I share the same profession (though not the same specialty), I totally understand. I've been told that all my blood giving life. I can't tell you the number of times when my wife (same line of work) have shared little observations like that. I like making life easy on phelbotomists and IV starters. Tell her I said thanks.

Panerai Luminor GMT 023. This is an old A series watch and it is interesting for its three departures from the standard Panerai aesthetic: it has a central second hand, a tuxedo dial and numbers on the bezel vs the normal fully polished bezel. It is on an ostrich shin strap.

A question better fielded by BigPappi. I like the watch but I avoid colored gold because I don't think it looks good against my Northern European skin tone.

In my next life I want to come back as someone really fricking cool so I can wear all the watches I would if I wear cool enough.

This is one I would wear if I was a DGAF rock star:

116595RBOW

And a 116508 "Mayer". John doubled the price of these when he waxed poetic about them on a Hodinkee Talking Watches episode

Anyone lining up for this atrocity?

re the Patek Cubitus. As I said before I think the moonphase/small seconds/day function is far too busy just like the similar 5912 iteration of the Nautilus (though the movement for that Cubitus is new and gorgeous with architecture to match).

That said I actually like the stainless three-hander and expect the blue dial TT will grab some people. Since the 5711 is discontinued there is no current SS Nautilus so the SS version of the Cubitus 5821 is going to be a hit no matter how many dislike it. The TT has grabbed my wife who as a Cartier lover enjoys all things square but I don't think she likes it $62k worth not counting the hoops that I would have to jump through. Plus it is has a Nautilus bracelet that won't fit her wrist correctly so that may be the nail in the coffin right there.

Although I suppose I am a bit of a PP fanboy and I love the Nautilus I just don't see all the hate (except for the complicated version with which I mostly agree). PP does itself no favors for being next to impossible to buy from like Rolex. It is a little like falling in love with a Ferrari because you can't even get them to take your money, even a briefcase full of 100 Euro notes.
