Castle law...the car is an extension of your home. If you catch somebody breaking into your car, it's legal for bullets to fly

I'll bet if we did there'd be a whole lot less people getting "offended" over everything.

The silly thing is the Disprderly Conduct provision in the laws. It's lawful to OC, but if ANYONE feels "threatened", they can basically convince LE the carrier has intentionally sparked public fear. LE can then, at their discretion, arrest or ticket the carrier. This will be a money grab for some departments. It's already been demonstrated with long gun carry.

With the passage of the Motorist Protection Act you may now readibly carry handguns, loaded and within reach, so long as you conceal the firearm. Long guns (rifles / shotguns) do not have to be concealed and may be loaded and within reach.

However, my CHL class is in 2 weeks. I'd much rather carry concealed.

I'm surprised Texas didn't allow open carry already.

I think it dates back to some Jim Crow laws.

No, it's not.

Not much, if anything, will happen.

BTW, the whole "permit" deal is BS. That goes for CCW, too.

As long as you're white shouldn't be an issue, Texas cops aren't any better than other states though I wouldn't have a gun visible if I was a minority.

Great.

Now we'll have a bunch of dill holes running around with the holster down to their knee like Han Solo.

Having the permit makes me more comfortable because i know you filled out proper application, paid money, passed background, went to class and qualified.

That's not entirely true here in Alabama. The process of getting a permit here consists of going to your local Sheriff's office and filling out an application and showing them your driver's license. The application asks you a battery of questions like have you ever been convicted of a felony, been committed to a mental hospital, had a restraining order against you, etc. They do a background check and you have your permit as long as it comes back clean. The whole process usually takes less than 15 minutes unless they're really busy. I just renewed my permit a couple weeks ago and the lobby was full of people either getting new permits or like me renewing their permits.

Yes, I was just speaking about Louisiana. I like how we do it here. Bama's procedure appears to be a little loose. I'm all for open/concealed carry, but as you know...a lot of these people scare me in the way they handle a firearm.

I won't open carry but I won't stress so much about printing or having a shirt ride up.

Open carry is stupid to begin with now days (especially the last 3 years). I have always felt this way. Why draw attention to people who will be worried when they see it when you can conceal.
