Alabama is already an "open carry" state. Here any adult with a clean record can openly carry a pistol. Alabama does require a permit to conceal carry. Looks like Texas will still require a permit though to open carry.

Any OT brethren plan on going John Wayne Style once the new law goes into effect tonight? And what's the general consensus on open carry?

For the record, I carry pretty much all the time but I keep it concealed.

Open carry is stupid if you have to have a license. The only reason to open carry is to draw attention to yourself or because you don't want to buy a license.

And the uniformed citizens are no near ready for this shite. The calls to LE will be ridiculous. YouTube vids of OCTexas have been a shite show forever. Texans want guns but soccer moms go nuts when they see one. And no, not lib soccer moms... Baptist helicopter bitches.

i believe it's fine as long as u have a concealed carry permit. Having the permit makes me more comfortable because i know you filled out proper application, paid money, passed background, went to class and qualified.

It honestly surprises me that they are just now allowing it. Louisiana has allowed it for 30+ years. It's just that not many people do it.

OC requires no permit. It's like carrying a long gun.

Texas is the one state with enough rednecks so stupid that open carry is not a good idea.

No kidding. Had to wrap my head around an incident a couple of months ago when a lady completely flipped her shite in the doctor's office waiting room because an off-duty cop had his holstered gun in plain sight. Starts interrogating the guy as to why he has a gun and announces to the office that she does not feel safe with this guy and his gun near her or her kid (who was only about 9 years old and totally embarrassed to death by his mom). Dude was wearing a Clarke County PD polo, too, and was just going to see the doctor on his time off. People are strange.

That's not entirely true here in Alabama. The process of getting a permit here consists of going to your local Sheriff's office and filling out an application and showing them your driver's license. The application asks you a battery of questions like have you ever been convicted of a felony, been committed to a mental hospital, had a restraining order against you, etc. They do a background check and you have your permit as long as it comes back clean. The whole process usually takes less than 15 minutes unless they're really busy. I just renewed my permit a couple weeks ago and the lobby was full of people either getting new permits or like me renewing their permits.

Not sure about Texas, but here in Alabama a conceal carry permit is required to keep a pistol in your vehicle.

Yeah, that lady is fricked up. This past spring I coached my daughter's U7 girl's softball team. One of the other dad's who helped me coach is a police officer. There were several instances where he'd show up at the ballpark with his sidearm on his hip. Normally he'd be dressed like the guy you saw, in slacks or sometimes jeans and a PD polo. He'd be out there like the rest of us and no one batted an eye over it.

I like the idea of open carry, but people are really assholes with it.

This is why we can't have anything nice.

I will continue to conceal. I don't want people to know I have a gun until it is needed.
It's gonna be likw the wild west over here. I can't wait.

So surprisingly tame and far less violent than pretty much any major city in America?
