I think SCOTUS already ruled that to be illegal. I recall certain states used to have "evaluations" to register to vote. It was wrong for voting and it's wrong for gun purchases.

Ted Kennedy was on the No-fly list at one point. The list is fallible.

Roughly .01% of the American population is on the terror watch list (using the 300k estimate). The idea that it is going to be used as some sort of tool to keep honest citizens from owning guns is tin foil shite IMO.

And it was caught, right?

Look, I don't want a vague list with no transparency or recourse, but we have to be practical about this kind of things too. That is all I want.

So, they can add people to that list? Like ranchers? Like ex military?

It was caught but those people had to go through the audits and had to waste time, resources, and capital to fight a bogus charge. They did not get compensated for any of it.

I thought this was America, where you are innocent until proven guilty, beyond a reasonable doubt. Yet you want people to prove they are innocent to purchase a gun.

Using the no fly list to restrict gun purchases is flat out unconstitutional. Your argument of a a small percentage of American citizens being on the list is a good point, however. What goods the fricking law if it doesn't apply to citizens?? Non citizens can't buy guns anyway!

An getting caught resulted in what? They will use the list as a weapon. That's not conspiracy, that's what bureaucrats do.

I don't want it to be free reign to add people as you'd like, but a compromise of some type can be reached.

They don't use the no-fly list as a weapon though, and it is much more inconvenient for the average American. 500 US citizens on the list. That's it.

Again, how's that gonna help prevent gun violence? It's gonna restrict 500 citizens from buying guns?? Or you think they'll add a few?

First off, I didn't bait the board, bottom line. Just wanted to hear the opinions and different viewpoints.
Secondly, I don't trust the gov't either. But I definitely don't trust a foreigner who's on a watch list in a gun store.
I would agree that there needs to be due process, as well as well structured ways of getting put on these lists and taken off the list.
Lastly, I am highly suspect of any arbitrary gun legislation as if you open one door, they'll try to open all the doors.

As long as there is an appeal process and some way to challenge your inclusion in court, I'm all for it. Appeals for those wrongfully included, mind you.

Remember when they put Ted Kennedy on the no-fly list? Only thing that SOB terrorized was drunk girls needing rides, the liquor cabinet, and my wallet.

Besides, if this fricker didn't have a gun, what's to stop him from chaining a door shut and burning the whole bar down?! He doesn't suddenly become non murderous frick because he doesn't have a gun.

He should have been on the no-drive list.

Eric Holder once said we need to monitor returning veterans for the threat they can pose to society. We can see how it would unfold.

Do you honestly want to trust the same government who has turned America in to the shitshow it is to be the one who makes the desision on weather or not you can protect yourself and you family from it?

I understand you'r second point about people being added arbitrarily, and that is a concern that should be addressed, but this part makes no sense. It may or may not stop gun violence from those on the list, but saying that it won't be effective therefore we should continue to keep access as open as possible is a terrible argument.
