It’s one of many places where people who can afford it move to. Louisiana isn’t on that list.

That is Alma at 10,578 ft. Leadville is at 10,158. I agree though, very cool place.

Then Leadville needs to change its sign.

Our back yard was basically look out mountain. Growing up it was awesome because it was just a giant playground.

Red rocks was 20 minutes, winter park was about 45 minutes from the house. Part of me wished we never left.

Denver is an overrated city imo, but the surrounding mountain towns are beautiful. They’re extremely expensive though

Im gonna go tin foil hat on you but it is ultimately a method to get rid of guns.

Ban predator hunting. Deer elk and sheep populations go down due to predators (man and animals combined). Limit the hunting on them to eventually no hunting at all. State government is gonna say "well you cant hunt predators, elk or deer so why should we sell these guns"

Born and raised in Louisiana, also currently living in Nola, and lived north of Denver for a year. Here's my 2 cents.

Weather is phenomenal. Im not a huge fan of the severe cold times so its not a climate I want to live in long term, but still great the rest of the time.
Homeless everywhere, except for a short period during the winter when its really cold. Otherwise they are all over the place.
Food has its high points, but outside of Denver its just the same as any other "northern" or midwest state. Bland, unseasoned, and just not on par with the south.
Bike paths and breweries everywhere. And I mean everywhere.
Can be tricky to navigate and travel given the weather and mountains.
The people are nice, but there is very little small talk and they can be fairly odd.
Everything closes very very early at night. Again, unless maybe youre in Denver. Literally restaurants, fast food drive thru's, bars, breweries all shut down before 9pm unless its a weekend and even then it isnt guaranteed to be open late.
Being from La its annoying as frick to have to go to a separate store for beer/wine/liquor/etc but I guess the trade of is having a weed shop every block.

I’m visiting Denver in June with the family, and I know it’s going to really make me want to move to Colorado. Not necessarily Denver, but Colorado in general.

I wouldn't bet on it unless you like shitty people, bad weather, very limited access to hunting / fishing and in the case of Denver nothing at all that one would expect to be good about a real city with all of the horrible shite one would expect to be horrible about a big city. Parts of Colorado are beautiful but it ain't the south.

This is something that I know for a certainty about southerners. Some of us leave for some period of time and thrive but most of us come home eventually when we realize we ain't home.

Colorado is moving to the left. There is a lot of noise around hunting laws in the state due to the large city populations.

It has already gotten so regulated that no one accustomed to hunting in the south will tolerate it long. Fishing is far worse, especially trout fishing. It ain't Washington State bad....you need a couple of lawyers along for the entirety of a hunting or fishing trip to interpret regulations, you could probably get by with having one on retainer in Coloradol....but it is unconceivably bad compared to the south and it is not better hunting or fishing, just different.

Great until the inevitable happens and they find out you are not a Mormon and then you will be a pariah in almost all of Utah, a good bit of Idaho and even Washington, Oregon and Wyoming. I have known several families who have left Utah and Idaho on count of it.

Whatever outdoor thing you like can be itched at an elite level here.

People in Colorado like to believe this, it is not nearly true. At least as far as hunting and fishing goes. First off it is a damned long way from a redfish or a tarpon. There is not inshore / offshore fishing because its too damned far from any salt water other than small shallow alkaline lakes that do not support life. Duck, goose and upland bird hunting is alright but it is not elite but what it lacks in quality it makes up for in crowds of people participating. Big game hunting is over regulated to the point of being nearly impossible to participate in and the trout fishing SUCKS compared to the rest of the western US....what quality trout fishing there is is on private property and even that is not on par with New Mexico or Utah public fishing. Warm water fishing is alright, nothing to write home about. I would assume hiking, camping and skiing are great but hunting and fishing is not.

Summers are MISERABLE hot in Denver. People will deny it but it is so. Humidity is not bad but summer temps reach triple digits regularly in July and August and can do it irregularly during June and September. The lack of humidity is initially nice but you soon realize the best way to roast a fricking turkey is in high, dry heat. And, this surprised the hell out of me, air conditioning is not overly popular...most homes have AC but LOADS of restaurants and stores and bars do not....when it is hot they open windows and doors and bugs crawl all over everything. Denver also does not enjoy the convection that most high altitude desert areas enjoy because its in a fricking bowl and the overnight temps often remain within a 5-10 degrees of the highs. Most high desert climates will have miserable hot high temps but over night lows drop into the low 60s. Not so in Denver. If you have not experienced for long periods you will think "hell, I am from the south, summers can't be worse"...and this would be true, if we did not have the common sense to have air conditioning....it is not uncommon at all in Denver for air conditioning to be missing. It is miserable.
