I agree with Sabi. Stay away from College Park, though. There are some nice homes off Graveline and in some areas of Point Clear. Hickory Hills ranges from meth lab trailers to beautiful homes--quite a range up there. Generally, though, Gautier has a lot of green space, amazing trails at the Estuarine Education Center at the MGCCC, and excellent boat launches. Heading south to Horn Island from the Point Clear launch is not to be discounted.

I grew up in Bay St Louis/Waveland and have lived in BR for 15 years. If you are going to live in Mississippi you have to be on the coast. I would definitely move back to BSL, Waveland, Pass, Biloxi, or Ocean Springs, but would have to be less than 3 miles from the beach. Too far away and it all gets really trashy.

Also, when getting opinions on the MS Coast, you have to discount the opinion of anyone who lives north of I-10. There is an inbred irrational hatred and jealousy from those people towards the coast.

Biloxi has gone to shite, but yes, anything north of I10 isn't worth looking into for the most part, although Diamondhead is pretty nice.

ETA: what HS did you go to?

3 people were shot in BSL last week

There is a pocket of nice area in BSL, but a lot of those streets and houses resemble the 9th ward

lol at a lot of those houses resembling the 9th ward. You obviously have no clue what you're talking about.

All those houses near the beach(especially downtown) and in Jourdan River Shores are such slums...

True, but Diamondhead is right on I-10 (and has a small area on the south side). Might be better to just say the three coastal counties.

If I were going to buy a house I'd go with the Pass. Best public school system in the state and very low cost of living. It's also nice to have NOLA an hour to the west and Mobile 90 minutes to the east.

Pass is very nice and you can buy north if I10 and still be in the school district. Lots of nice country places just north of I10.

Well...it's much better than the rest of Mississippi! That is a fact!

OS, long beach, pass Christian, and BSL would be the best place to find nice neighborhoods and good schools. If wanting To live in Biloxi, make sure to find a neighborhood with a good HOA. Some good ones are off hwy 67 about 10-15 min north of downtown Biloxi.

Gaudier, Pascagoula, and vancleave are garbage. Nothing but pure hillbilly.

Lots of fun stuff to do on the coast. Also, it's nice to be so close to Nola and Pensacola for quick weekend trips

Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian are my favorite areas, but the insurance costs to live along the coasts are staggering and for good reason.

I lived on the Coast for about 5 years pre Katrina. Ocean Spings is the place you want. Cool downtown, good restaurants, good schools. Gautier has a strange vibe...about all it had going for it was the mall and the high school football team. Pascagoula was real gritty, Moss Point was even grittier.
