Well that doesn't sound promising.

That's the original meaning. As I understand it, breeds that are referred to with some prefix like "mountain cur" are usually specific breed mixes to produce qualities in the dog.

“Cur” isn’t really a breed.

A cur is a hunting dog, and they will hunt. Squirrels, coons, your neighbors' cats, small yappy dogs - doesn't matter, it's all fair game. Never let it lose in your neighborhood bc of that. They are very smart and as others have mentioned, stubborn. Great dog's, but not for a weak owner.

I have what I think is a cur pit mix aka your garden variety country dog. She is a stone cold killer. Only dog I've ever known to kill a skunk. Armadillos, snapping turtles, you name it. My dogs gang up on the snapping turtles - kind of interesting - 2 will keep it focused on he front, while one goes in for the kill from behind. it's the cur who is the organizer. She's super smart.

Little Ann from Where the Red Fern Grows is a cur.
Guess what I named my cur mix??

Catahoula Curs are very stubborn and hard to train. If you put the time in they are great dogs. Intelligent and tough as hell. I used to have one and she and my American bulldog would tie up regularly. She always whipped the bigger bulldog's arse, I don't think she felt pain.

Don't know much about mountain curs except some people use them as squirrel dogs. I don't think a mix breed boxer and cur would be much use for squirrels though.

Not interested in catching squirrels. I just want a dog to guard my home, easy to train, and that makes a good pet.

Boxers are a little too retarded for my liking. They are sweet Dogs but between Boxers,Pugs, and Boston Terriers, I'm not sure which one is harder to look at. I've always had Hunting Dogs as family Pets but they served the purpose of a tool as well as a companion.

Dan was the coonhound, Little Ann was a cur.

I re-read the book a few years ago with my daughter, who did cry by the way.

She likely cried because her dad lied to her about the type of dog little ann was

shite, y'all are right - I looked it up. I sure thought they were describing a cur on the last read.

Maybe it was her size and light coloring.

Oh and my daughter DIDNT cry - that was typo.
I found her lack of tears mildly disturbing.

My son found what we call a cur, it’s part German Shepard and something that was brindled. It’s smart, loving and a damn good guard dog.

ours looks predominately Ridgeback, but with shorter legs - we believe may be Corgi. we have a DNA test that we should get the results for this week or next to know for sure.

whatever she is she is a damn good dog
