I had a female. Miss her everyday.
She was very loyal to me but stubborn.
She was a very smart dog.
Was house broken quickly.
Constantly had to be touching me in one form or another. She could never lay by herself except when it was sleep time. She then went lay in her bed.
I currently have two small dogs that were going to be dropped off at the pound because the owners didn’t want them but….when one finally goes over the rainbow I will definitely get me another mini.

They bark.

Friends lived uptown and inherited a pair of females from her parents. After they separated and moved to different states, I stopped by to visit their next door neighbor who said she missed them but she didn't miss the dogs barking every time she turned on water in her house. I said I didn't think the dogs were out that much. She laughed and said the schnauzers were seldom out, but they barked madly inside their own house every time she turned the water on inside her own house. every time.

My favorite breed. I will never own anything else. I have had Julius, Little Darlin’, Missy and Dustin. They all were fantastic. Do not shed, great temperament, personalities were hilarious. Got along great with my grandkids and neighbors. What I love about them the most is they just want to be with you. If you’re working outside all day, no problem. If you want to go on a ten mile walk, no problem. If you’re ill and don’t feel well, they will lay near you and be perfectly content. Easy to train and very loyal.

I have two. Litter mates male and female. Had a 3rd with us for 16 years. Best dogs we have ever had.

They can be quirky. Someone told us that sometimes the schnauzers are really training the human, not the other way around. They are fiercely loyal. And ours have about three different barks. They will let you know when hungry, when something is disturbing them in a bad way, and when someone they know is home and they are just excited to see them. I would say ours bark appropriately.

Our two males have also been known to be very protective, almost sentry like. If I am gone or both of us are gone and our daughter is at the house alone, the males have been known to stay up all night on watch. Sitting or sleeping in a spot that they could see intruders.

Have enjoyed owning them.

My advice with dogs like Schnauzers, poodles, etc (dogs that require a lot of grooming) : Get them used to grooming early. Get a set of clippers and acclimatize them to it as soon as you get them as a puppy. Start with it just in their presence, then turn it on, and touch it to them with it on (but not clipping them.) Then, clip their fur and trim their nails, etc.

If you're not willing to take care of the grooming, bring them to a groomer right after the vet visit. Get them used to the process. It will make things easier on the dog and the groomer.

Otherwise, you'll have a dog that freaks the frick out every time he's given a bath, clipped, etc. And that's a miserable process for everyone involved.

We are on our third. Love the breed! My wife had a male when we started dating. He was very protective of her but I would egg him on. I’d advise not to do that. He died right before our wedding.

Got our 2nd male about 6 months after our wedding and he was 4yrs old when we had kids. He was great with the kids. He lived for 14yrs.

Our 3rd is also a male. Like the others, he will bark at anybody and everybody. We advise people to ignore him until he calms down, then pet him.

None of them have been aggressive to us but our current one will act like he’s a bad arse when he meets a new dog.

We recently added a new golden doodle to the family and this guy is an idiot who can’t control his bladder. Worst mistake we ever made. Should’ve been happy with my lap dog!
