spent some time in mcallen/edinburgh/pharr not long ago

I was expecting a halfway near 3rd world country, but they had just about everything you would need there, actually kinda reminded me of Lafayette.

great meals were had there, and never did feel unsafe, the reports of lawlessness are just fear mongering.

It is a plus if you speak Spanish. If you need ceramic tile laid you are in the right place. My brothers illegal housekeeper made killer homemade salsa. You can cross the border to Progresso for an authentic third world shithole experience.

I know as well

Let’s say it didn’t workout although her mom said I was more Mexican than her. She was more ghetto than traditional Mexican.

Spent about a week there couple of years ago and was comfortable and found folks to be polite and cordial. Upon departing we were stopped at what must have been some border checkpoint, which was a first outside of military bases. Had just purchased the vehicle, pre-owned, and thought sure hope the previous owner wasn't some user or worse, dealer.
