yea ill say...lafayette is better place to live imo. Better restaurants, more of them, more people but also traffic sucks too
I frequent Lafayette & LC for work. Lafayette roads/infrastructure looks like it was designed by a 2 year old. It’s losing its charm…quickly.

Not what it used to be (not that it was ever a large private school like OLQH). I went to St. Margs back in the late 90s and it was great. The hurricane did a toll on it, as it did to much of the LC. My daughter attends ICCS, which is growing decently in size. OLQH will always be king on the block. I loved it when we toured, but we ultimately went with ICCS.
iccs actually has the better scores and higher class families. btw our kids go to school together

the biggest problem with the area.
They are still governed by boomers and people who want to protect family interests over parish improvement.
1000% this but that has changed over the last decade, especially since the hurricane. no longer governed by boomers either.
has its issues for sure but has a lot going for it too though.
man if we could go like 30-40 years or even 50 years again without a major hurricane would be a big thing and really allow the area to make big strides.

My wife and I lived in LC for 5 years and then moved back to BR after Laura. It took us a VERY long time to make friends over there because we were immediately judged as snooty just because we were from BR.
Because they were jealous of you, thats a fact.

another good thing is LC has plenty of room to grow...just will be towards the SE instead of SW like before.
Corbina RD and east of that is going to explode soon
They started the dirt work for the new St Louis HS in Morgan Field too
There is a lot of growth potential around there, the Burton and that whole area SE of McNeese st

Lafayette is such a pain in the arse to get around the city. I hate going to Lafayette. The loop and less people in LC makes it so much easier to navigate.
The engineers at the time had to be doing some crazy drugs LOL.
The roads there are a mystery.

It really is one big puzzle. I’m good at my sense of direction but driving in Lafayette tests me everytime. You don’t know if your going to west, east, south or north half the time.

Not sure how the GN would play out. All I’m saying is legalized gambling/sports betting is gaining traction in TX. This is one of the main reasons Cuban sold a majority of the Mavs to the Adelson’s. Idea is to build a new arena attached to a casino resort. Also talk that Galveston would very likely secure one of the limited license. Still several yrs away, as TX legislature meets every 2 years. Including the current legislative session, it will likely be a couple of more sessions before passing into law.

Very possible I guess. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Adelsons try to move the Mavs to Las Vegas. They have roots there.

Just wanted to add another good school for pre-K to 8th grade is St.Margaret's Catholic school. On Enterprise Blvd. Not far from Lake Charles Memorial, where I work. Several of my coworkers send their children there.
I went there. It is not as big as ICCS, OLQH, so class sizes are smaller, which is a positive to me. Students score high on testing. Parents are very involved in the school.
Best K-8 private school in LC is EDS if we're talking solely academics. They have a bunch of people in LC that do the EDS ---> Barbe route because Barbe has a very good gifted program and has twice the AP courses SLC does.
Problem with EDS is they attract the Kamala Harris yardsign type while OLQH/STM/ICCS attract typical run of the mill Catholic families.
So you send your kid to EDS, he or she's going to be around some weird fricks.

All of these schools are solid from what I know.
I had 1 sister go to OLQH then St. Louis.
From what I've seen in my life, the people who have done better career wise graduated from St. Louis.

I use to have to stay near I-10 when I wanted to get drunk in Laffy LOL.

This is 100% a fact. I am speaking from direct experience.

Curious how insurance is going to affect this growth.
They have been saying for years that South of I-10 is getting impacted the most and that was before Laura but now the expansion is further and further south in an actual low lying farm area.

It is. Or at least it was. I have lots of family from there. When I would hang around a lot of Sulphur folks, it's like many were trying a little too hard to be "country."

Is there an actual Lake Charles or is that a place name? I need not look on a map with our crack reporters.
For example, there is not actual Snow Lake in Arkansas
