My oldest starts high school next year. Been in central schools since she started, and takes almost all gifted classes. She is on pace to graduate with her first two years of college already done thanks to a new program they have launched called Wildcat College.

All the schools are basically new/renovated thanks the the flood. The high school just completed a 2yr long renovation and additional wings added. You should go ask for a tour, and look into what they offer. It may surprise you.

We used to be in the same sports district as Central Private back in the 80s and early 90s. Good athletes and cute girls. That’s about all I have.

Piggy backing on Wildcat college. It is really awesome. Wish they had it there when I went. The new renovations to the Highschool are legit nice as well.

As a response to Great Lakes list of ACT scores... Could you show a list of high school ACT scores that are NOT magnet or charter and are a public school in the EBR parish school systems? When you compare CHS to public schools in the parish that are not mag or private or STEM or charter..there is NO comparison except for Zachary.

If you want to live in EA parish and send your kids there, that is awesome, their schools are as good and maybe better. If you live there and work in EBR, please enjoy your commute back to EA.

If you want to send your kids to Zachary public. that is a great choice as well (we looked there before buying) I am not sure how the traffic is driving back into BR.

Would enjoy input from anyone who lives in and around EBR that wants to send their kids to a "good" public school, there are no other choices.

You may be thinking, "I'd just go to the LP and live in Watson(great community, lots of former central people here)..Which again is even further away from EBR and you will likely catch Central traffic getting home.

would you rather do Walker? or DHS ? Not sure about their scores or if it is viewed as a better location.

The thruway is convenient and all, but I wish they would’ve never built it. It felt like an actual separation from BR before it was built.

It is a blessing, and a curse all at the same time. Most of the traffic issues stem from LP residents going through central to get to and from Baton Rouge. EBR passed the tax years ago to address Hooper, Sullivan rd, and Wax/Magnolia Beach rd, but our wonderful EBR leadership is busy adding sidewalks, street lights, and other things then to work on these. The Sullivan rd extension has been in the construction phase for the last 6 or 7yrs. Absolute cluster frick that is wasn’t finished years ago. It’s only about a mile of road to widen.

But they built the new Athletic building in front of the stadium in 2 weeks though right?

You guys gonna really love the new development being done on Hooper at Foster area. More kids will increase overcrowding and classroom sizes. And when people tried to stop it, they were just told it is because you are racist.

That’s actually the new school administration building. Prior to it being built the were leasing space at the old Starky Academy, and in a shopping center before that.

Grew up in Central and still live there. We are planning to move in next 4 years. Not same Central as I grew up and my kids will be in college. Ready to make a change.

CCSS is has basically said it will revert back to its original boundaries that stopped at the comite and amite rivers. It was another zoning gift EBR tried to slip in. That technically under EBR zoning, and not Central’s zoning. School district boundaries extended beyond Central Community boundaries.

About the only parts of central that feel similar to 20 years ago is some parts of Frenchtown and Blackwater. I’m probably missing a few. But it’s a shell of itself ever since they built a walmart. And then eventually the thruway.

I grew up out there too. Lived in Central from 1978-1996. My wife and I lived there for a year in 2005 as well. It's certainly way different than I remember it growing up.

Ray Charles can see that Central will become Baker in the next 5 years. The dregs of Baton Rouge have started to slowly permeate Watson, Denham, and Walker as well. Baton Rouge is a cancer that is slowly spreading. Your best bet is to leave the Baton Rouge area entirely. I have one graduating next year and then I'm leaving fire on the ground like a Delorean going back to the future.

Central has had some geographical challenges for 30 years. The hood has been creeping down Hooper and Greenwell Springs since the 90s. I doubt it will completely turn in 5 years. Maybe 25 years.

Respectfully have to disagree. The Hooper at Foster Development, subsidized housing at Shoe Creek, and my last visit to watch a Central High football home game tell me otherwise.

I bet I know you. Regardless, Central is getting ghetto. I hate it.

The politics is awful.
