What I took from it was white guys saw a black guy talking to one of there girlfriends and took exception to it. They went instigate trouble and the black kid wasn't going to back down and was ready to fight the kid over it. Then he was hit in the head with a bottle and jumped by a group.
Maybe not a hate crime but definitely assault.

I was a public school kid from across the creek attending a party consisting of mostly private school people. Showing up with 3 of "their" girls in my truck wasn't a great first move

Sorry but regardless of skin color, in high school if you show up to a party and start trying to talk up a girl with a boyfriend you should expect trouble. including getting jumped by him and his boys
