Famous investors and founders that left during COVID have ended up slinking back to the Bay Area. From Keith Rabois to the founders of Brex and Airtable, few can escape the pull of networks and VC money in Silicon Valley.

RTO similarly killed the migration for tech workers.

As long as they stay out of Texas, I'm good...

A friend of mine's nephew recently quit... I'll say a social media company that people use to connect with people in their industry for jobs, etc because they recently went more "woke" than they were.

They announced they would start doing employee evaluations with new guidelines in order to become a more diverse company. In other words, anyone who was a white male.. their days were likely numbered. Why would anyone move out of Miami to go back to SF? And I am asking this just based off the taxes they have to pay.

It really was a fascinating run. Honestly people from the west coast really fricked with a few small towns and peaceful communities. across the midwest and south. They definitely liked the peaceful living and sensible costs and escape from California politics.

The recall over the last two years or so has been equally interesting. Jobs that used to be fully remote were now either hybrid or "remote from San Francisco, Denver, or New York."

There's just an incredibly powerful network effect for those guys in the San Francisco area that has slowly been rebuilding, and they're rich enough to be removed from the shithole aspects of the city; it's only the frontline people who have to deal with it.

When major business areas of the city are suffering because of the homeless camps causing problems, I’m curious as to where these people are.

They aren’t necessarily going to live in the Tenderloin but major hotels which did a lot of convention business said “frick this shite.” Has to affect them even second-hand through business contacts not wanting to go there.

I've worked for quite a few SF based tech companies and invariably everyone at the VP level and above is remote somewhere in the country on 40 acres of beautiful land and they travel to the office for major events. Usually you get one or two members of the C Suite based in some of the richest neighborhoods that are utterly shielded from the plight of the city. Then everyone director and below are the ones that have to trod through shite and come to the office every day.
