Also, I hate instructors who put questions on the back of the last page on an exam. Had that happen a few times in high school and community college. Teachers were usually pretty cool about it. In my community college government class, the instructor just gave me a grade based on the questions I did answer.
Took a quiz in a business law class where the last 10 questions were on the back of the final page. I didn't even think to flip the quiz over, so I didn't answer the last ten questions. Ended up almost failing the quiz and the instructor wouldn't let me retake.
Hated him for it, but I never made that mistake again.

It's cool bro, I can help. A few questions first. If you can answer yes to any of these we've got a shot. Two, and it's a done deal.

A quick glance at your post history is an eye opener ..

I am one of those "horrible professors". The reason many of us don't round up is because we indicate in the syllabus what the threshold for a grade is. If you miss it by a lot or by a little, you still miss it. It much like being told that the train leaves at 3:00 pm and you show up at 3:01. The train has already left. You can ask, but I will also tell you that pleading a little too hard is a major turn off for us, and at some point it becomes an irritant. Your best bet is to learn the lesson and strive to do better in the future.
Why should anyone care if they irritate you if you're not going to change their grade anyway.
Unless I planned on taking another one of your classes, you're just a professor, so it really doesn't matter if my actions are seen by you as an irritant.

The fact that you're asking this board and not going and reading the syllabus and exhausting all other options tells me all I need to know.
Pretty much this.
If you wanted the grade you should have worked harder. Why do people think they deserve grades they didn't earn????

Go to his/her office and start bawling. Make sure you cry loud too. I've seen motherfrickers literally go from failing to passing in a matter of minutes.

I am sure it has been said but if it was that critical you would have made it happen. Why should taxpayers pay for you to do LESS than the bare minimum. Listen up and listen good, IF by the grace of God you get to keep your scholarship you need to realize that other people are paying for your education and you owe it to them to do your best but even more than that you should do it for you. You are receiving a free college education, something 99% of the world doesn't receive, so get your shite together already.

You don't email her. That's a face to face talk.

My problem is with the grading system, not the instructor's grading policy.
A 79 should not have the same weight as a 70. That's so stupid.

I ended the semester with a 79.70 C in my class and my teacher refuses to round my grade up to 0.30 points.
The syllabus usually pretty clearly sets out the expectations for each grade, and you saw it at the very start of the class. Some instructors will give a little leeway but they aren't required to.
But I'm pretty sure you ignored the syllabus because you asked how to go about emailing her. Isn't her email address on the syllabus? In the highly unlikely event it wasn't, didn't you ask her for it during the first couple of weeks in case you needed it later?

You seem to be a C student anyway.

89.9 B is a load of crap.
I don't have a problem with instructors not rounding an 89.4 to an A for a student who asks but the ones who make .9s not round up their official syllabus policy are the worst.
How many people have actually experienced this situation? 9 times out of 10 when I hear this I missed a grade by the professor not rounding up, I just think its bullshite on their part.
More often than not, professors are more than fair in their grading

That's why more schools are going to the +/- system

To be fair, I think he meant how to word the email. Not how to actually email her lol

I've had a couple professors at UA who enacted this policy. The only difference is that we have the +/- system.
These professors were thorough, organized, offered some extra credit, put their lectures online, did a little curving and had extended office hours. They were fair, but in the end their policy was simple, you aren't given grades; you earn them.
Chances are you probably already had a few things curved in this class, and you might have been given extra credit opportunities. If so, I have no problem with the professor enforcing her policy. She has to draw the line somewhere.
You didn't work as hard as the person who earned a B, so why should you be given that grade?

Wow you sound very entitled. You didn't make a B. Deal with it.

I'm 5.3 points away from an A in a class this semester. Got a perfect score on the final and made As on the first two tests, but fricked around on the homework assignments and it bite me in the arse. I've never been one to grovel for a bump up in points though.
On the flip side of that, I took a history class that only had 3 test scores throughout the year. I did pretty well on the first and last one, but the middle one I bombed pretty badly because I got slammed with the flu. They guy told us all semester not to drop the class even though we didn't take a test until after the drop date. So at the end of the year I had a C because of that one low test grade...but he went back and he knew my name/face from class and saw that I went to every class and really just had an off day and he bumped me up to an A
The same guy also pulled out a quarter before the final and said "everyone has to agree to it, but if it's unanimous, I will flip this coin and if it's Heads, everyone gets an A for the semester, and if it's Tails, everyone gets a C for the semester"
No one would agree to it
I wanted to do it though

I had that situation 3 times in grad school. Twice they rounded up and once it wasn't rounded. Two were 89.79% and one was 79.84% (I was actually at 74.84% but sent and email to the prof asking for him to factor in my extra credit assignment (5 points) He automatically changed the grade from a C to a B. It would have been my only C in grad school and I was happy to get a B in that Econ class.
