Didn't help one bit because I got a damn C in the class

But since you're about to lose tops I'm guessing you went to class a few times a month.

That being said, not getting Those 0.3 points is crappy.
Agreed. But I know faculty that get off on doing crap like that.
Here's a case study that I just had this semester for a 2000-level non-majors class.
40% of grade was position papers
Student made 85, 87, 92 and 80 on the four papers. Awarded 34.4 of 40 possible points. The 80 was an outlier and admittedly not her best work.
10% of the grade was class participation.
Student missed one class, regularly spoke up and was engaged with the material. Awarded 10 of 10 possible points
20% of the grade was a group project.
Student was paired with two below median students. Group project was graded at 84. Awarded 16.8 of 20 possible points
30% of the grade was midterm and final.
Student made a 92 and a 95. Awarded 28.05 of 30 possible points
Without looking at grades, I would have said that this student was one of the two best in the class, but she earned 89.25% of the possible 100 points. A solid B.
She was awarded an A.

ridiculous.
Lowering someones gpa over such a small percentage to prove a point or make an example out of someone. agreeing to the syllabus is a bunch of crap. there has to be some give and take. If the student really tried - attended class, completed all assignments,etc..., then he/she deserves a B with a 79.9 percent. Not many professors would hold them to what they've signed off on in the syllabus.

Getting a B is critical for my TOPs scholarship.

Not rounding is a dick move, but it's theirs to make.

I got several 79.9 or 89.9 and was stuck with Bs or Cs. Impacted me too. Deal with it

I've gotten an 89.8 B before but it specifically said in the syllabus that there would be NO rounding up. It sucks to be so close but I wouldn't even think about bitching about it. It's already fricked up enough that someone who makes a 99 gets the same GPA as someone who makes a 90, no need to stretch it out even further

Your only hope is to find some mis-graded on the final and contest that for .3 more but you run the risk of losing other points.
This actually worked for me once when I was at LSU years ago...my final average was like 79.7 or some crap and the teacher didn't round. I KNEW I did better on the final exam than my score indicated so I went to her office to see if she would re-check the exam. She didn't want to at first, but I finally convinced her to just look at it. Sure enough, she had mis-calculated the score on my exam by about 6 points. Simple human error on her part, but an error nonetheless. Those points pushed my grade over 80 and I got a B. She wasn't terribly apologetic, but IDGAF.

This site never ceases to amaze me... I regularly see people on TD bitch and complain about those who feel as if they are entitled. Now, the majority of posters in this thread are upset with professors who are appropriately evaluating the performance of their students?
Yes, it does suck that you were extremely close to receiving a B in the class. However, you are not entitled to a higher letter grade because you were close to a B.

So on the syllabus, do you write 80-90% is a B, or do you write 80.0-90.0% is a B?
My profs would do something like [80, 90) interval notation.

I like how the thread title is plural, like its a thing every college level teacher is expected to do.

I had a prof who would just compute the ceiling, so a 69.2 became a 70. I don't think he wanted to deal with this shite.

I feel ya, bro.
I fell .001 short of graduating Suma. Have to be happy with Magna.
I wonder when I'll stop being bitter.

I took a marketing elective the fall semester of my senior year. I never made below an 89 on an exam and completed every extra credit we were assigned yet the graduate assistant calculated everyone's final grade before he finished grading the last exam, so it looked like despite never making less than a B+ on any assignment that I barely passed with a C because he averaged in a "0" for the last test.

It really is funny. As soon as something actually applies to their life, some people want others to accommodate them in ways that they denounce loudly. I guarantee your professor is getting a ton of emails from other people begging for a grade they didn't earn. As others have pointed out, your TOPS is affected because you did poor in several classes. Its time to change your behavior, not ask for handouts.
