The note actually says to not write YOUR NAME in cursive.
Do people really not sign their name in cursive anymore?
That teacher is an embarrassment!

She's teaching her student an important life lesson. The only appropriate thing to write in cursive is a signature.

Writing in cursive isn't really even a skill, I'd consider it more of a preference.
Also, signing your name in cursive is so common-place that it's just a petty thing for a teacher to even note. If anything, signing your name in cursive was encouraged when I was in school.

Not the answer to your question but the military is when I stopped writing in cursive, we had to use all uppercase letters when writing stuff, when I got out I just continued to do so and still do.

I get the proliferation of keyboard-based education, but how will people sign their names to documents, etc.? Are they just going to print them? That looks kind of retarded.

When I was in school you would get fussed at if you didn't write in cursive.

It sounds like she was only writing her name in cursive though, so she's kind of doing the opposite of instilling that life lesson.

You're killing your father, Alyssa.

There is no valid educational reason to be militantly anti-cursive. As long as it's legible, but that goes for printing as well, who really gives a hot damn?

The teacher asked her to stop because she never learned to read cursive and did not know who to return the paper to.

LMAO - It is dying except in the parochial schools here where I live.
On reports/papers kids in grade school are learning MLA/APA citation etc. Actually hand-writing a paper is seemingly obsolete.

She said "you've had several warnings".
I think she knows exactly who it belongs to.

I was taught cursive and its the only way I write when I do write something down because print is slower. However, I don't write with a pen very often if ever.
I had to take a professional exam in July. For some odd reason, there was one section that had to be handwritten, even though it too could have been computer typed answers like ever thing else. Why they did that I have no idea(will go computer next administration), but I feel really badly for the person who has to read my cursive writing while I was under pressure. It almost felt like my hand had been damaged in a terrible accident. Hand writing in general is really hard for me to do now at any type of pace.

Follow directions.
Little Jose can write in Spanish, but that doesn't mean he gets to do so on his tests.
ETA: I'm not anti-cursive, but this social media faux injustice attention whoring has gotten out of hand.

Well since she's a military veteran...

Sounds like a pain in the arse parent. It's a name used to identify the paper's owner, why use cursive?

well, just add this to the list of things they can't do;
they can't add or subtract...ever give a young cashier pennies to even out the transaction so you just get silver back? only to get your pennies you gave and the ones you were trying to avoid!!!
they can't spell either! I seen it on the message center for the town....of course it was a low level employee putting up the mssage for the whole town to read.....lmao
and NOW, please stop using cursive!!!
anything else?

Hate this shite. I have fairly good penmanship -- especially by today's standards -- but if I write more than a sentence or two, my hand cramps something fierce.

Precisely.
You can look at your writing and realize that there are elements of cursive in it.
My writing is probably 70% cursive and 30% print. Cursive writing taught me that if I leave my pencil on the paper as much as possible I could write way way faster. So after taking notes a lot in college I realized my writing formed into a mashup of print and cursive...I was also one of the quickest note takers. And this was in notes-heavy classes like biology.
People that are hating it that know it need to reexamine their handwriting and give credit where it's due.
