Do they allow split tunneling? As in you access your work apps like email over the VPN, but can still surf teh pr0n through your home network connection?

Only works if the company is running all traffic through a proxy, and/or doesn't have group policy set. These days chances are the blocking is happening at the edge firewall level.

Nope - my firewall is capable of SSL inspection and blocking proxies.
But we block only porn and other standard questionable content for our users regardless. As long as the work gets done, the employee base is cut some slack.

Firewall or DNS. Or in our case, both.
We actually use Cisco Umbrella (used to be OpenDNS) on our laptops. So even when an employee is connected to starschmucks wifi, they're still blocked from a bunch of stuff.
Of course it's easy to change the DNS server away from Umbrella to another DNS server....but we also remove the ability to do that from users.

Ya, we're actually pretty lenient as well. Our policy is that we're not productivity managers. If one of your employees is goofing off all day on the interwebs, that's your problem. Not ours. I only care about sites that could compromise the network or get us sued.

Yes well. Yeah. Laptop tunnels through everything thing else. I have “allow lan access ....” on laptop off.
