I agree with you that it's all a marketing ploy, but it's devolving into a race to the bottom. Which company will cave to the most ridiculous, obscure social ideals generated from people doing the same thing on the Internet? This country is becoming a reality TV show.

It has to be socially unhealthy to promote changing definitions to account for the minority.
Transgendered people aren't advised to seek therapy and live their life doing what they want without regard to their anatomy, they're advised that they truly are the opposite sex and advised to cut up their bodies to match.
Kids can't be told "well Barbies are tailored to girls, but hey, if you want one, you go right ahead." We have to lie about the fact that female fricking dolls are typically of interest to females.
