If it were done quietly no one would even notice, but that isn't the point, it has to be announced and make front page news on CNN so we can be beat over the head with it like this is ending some huge social injustice. The criticism of this shite is always warranted.

What's the point of enacting a marketing plan that no one knows about? Of course they are going to announce it. You usually see adverts on TV when Mcdonald's does their monopoly thing too.

They are marketing themselves as a socially conscious company. They are giving people who care about such things to select them over their competitors who provide pretty much an identical product.
They can only win with this. Most people won't care, and most of the people who do will lIke it. Do you really think this is motivated by anything other than money? Really?
