"WE WANT FEWER PEOPLE ON WELFARE"!
*Retailer raises wages, giving low wage employees more financial freedom.*
"THIS IS bullshite, I'M GOING TO HAVE TO PAY $.75 extra for my throw pillows!".

This is how it should be done, not by Government mandate.

Great thing about capitalism, you can find your pillows elsewhere.

Target will be on the ropes here in about 10 years. It'll be a battle between Walmart and Amazon. Once Amazon starts getting graded on earning (EPS) instead of growth, some of those Amazon perks that everyone loves now will start going away as Amazon will need to monetize them. Less "you keep that wrong thing we delivered" and more Prime rate increases.

The 1st year I worked the Summer for my Dad was 1975.I was 14.
Minimum Wage,which I was paid,was $2.10 an hour.
$84.00 before taxes.
You do understand that a minimum wage equal to the $2.10 you made in 1975 would be $9.58 today , don't you?

It sure is.
Which is why I don't understand why people really care. If they ultimately pass the cost on to the customers and lose business, then capitalism worked, the lower wages will continue across the industry, and no affect will be had.
If they raise the rates and do not lose business, then they get more qualified employees that are better paid and are less likely to leave, which benefits both the customers and the business itself.
There's just a group of people that get all triggered when something like this comes along to help give working poor people a little bit of a leg up.

Where is the money going to come from for the raises? One of two things will happen ... cost of goods will rise, which means the customer will pay for it or quality will go down and Target will soon become Wal-Mart.
Either way, Amazon still wins with its consumer selling model.
Target will have a better quality of employee, which will attract more customers. Quality will go up, not down.
It should have implemented an immediate increase to $15, but this is a step in the right direction, and is one that all retailers should adopt.

I'm no economist, but I'd think that a jump all the way up to $15 immediately would play hell with their business model.

That would violate the laws of economics. People won't shop there if the quality is crap. The chain will fail before it becomes WalMart with these policies.

Nothing rustles people like minimum wage.

Looks like a lot of baws in here are jealous that Target employees will be making more than them.
thats how i read it
the baws making $15 an hour are rustled by a private companies decision to increase their wages
doesnt make sense to me, they can continue shopping at walmart

I'll be honest, I'll pay more for goods in a store where I don't have to deal with fricking imbeciles.
Aside from groceries (and even this can be done now on-line or with Amazon's purchase of Whole Foods), why would anyone need to step foot into a big box retail store?
So it's weird... but there a number of people, mainly women, who like to shop. Actually physically get out there and shop.
My wife is one of them. She will spend an hour looking at the dollar bins at Target. She spent 3 hours yesterday looking at clearance items at Kohls.
She will shop online too but doesn't seem to get the same joy out of it.

Well it’s a public company and so the individuals whose Jimmies are rustled may just be shareholder who feel their investment is going to lose value...

You're totally correct, but I figure if that were the case then posters would be much more vocal about that fact. Plus what kind of good ole boy would own stock in a company that lets trannys in their bathrooms?
I'd venture to say that the folks that are upset about this own a lot more truck nuts than they do stock.

Target and other big retailers, for the most part can afford this. It's going to put the squeeze on the smaller independent guys.
Posted on 9/25/17 at 1:54 pm to Will Cover
Target is already more expensive than average.
I don't see them leaning on vendors for cheaper goods to sale.

Guessing that's why they are taking 3 years to put it in place...

Right, which was my point.

see, this is where the no skilled labor just don't get it.
Now, with the wages being $15, Target can get an even bigger pool of employees, many who are actually skilled and IQ's over 50.
And when the Burger joints are forced to do the same, the low skilled continue to get pushed out of work.
So will inner city/hoosier, no skilled workers fight for fruit picking jobs, once they priced themselves out of the bottom rung of jobs????

To each their own. But to have a product or item delivered to my house, usually within 48 hours for less than what I can find it locally, just appeals to me. And if I don't like it, I log back in, return a return slip and they'll pick it right back up from me. At no additional cost.
Call me crazy, but as soon as more people find out about this, it's going to really hurt big box retail stores.
