Agreed. It was more the "no one" should be upset. The stockholders have a right to be upset.

Their sales were already down after the tranny bathroom stuff. They can't raise prices too much higher.

How this triggers some folks that have absolutely zero stake in the company is beyond me.

So long as no one else does, they'll end up with better employees for it.

If the government mandates a $15/hour min, they'll just be another shitty place to work.

It's like people just walk around looking for a reason to get mad.

Where is the money going to come from for the raises? One of two things will happen ... cost of goods will rise, which means the customer will pay for it or quality will go down and Target will soon become Wal-Mart.

What if paying better leads to more productive employees and less turnover? A $15 an hour employee that actually works 8 hours will produce more than a $10 an hour employee that spends half the day checking their facebook.

Right. This is a company making a decision to pay their employees more. This shouldn't be a blip on the radar. Now when they most likely raise prices, people can decide if they want to continue shopping there. No one should have a problem with this though.

I doubt this was done in a vacuum, I'm sure most of the shareholders agree with the board who makes these decisions.

I have no problem with this. I actually find the shopping experience at Target heads and shoulders above Wal-Mart. The staff is generally friendly and are willing to help. I teach Economics so one of 3 things will happen; they will raise pricing to help with this or the talent pool will get better creating a better shopping experience, resulting in increased sales or they will crash and burn over this under the extreme weight of wages.

I'll be honest, I'll pay more for goods in a store where I don't have to deal with fricking imbeciles.

So glad I don't shop at Target. Their prices are about to be even more obscene than they already are.

As an aside, I'd be pissed off if I was about to hit $11 an hour and suddenly everyone is making $11 an hour.

Aside from groceries (and even this can be done now on-line or with Amazon's purchase of Whole Foods), why would anyone need to step foot into a big box retail store?

Amazon is competitive price wise, has tremendous customer service, a liberal return policy and an on-line interface that is easy for an inexperience Internet customer can quickly navigate through.

I'm sure they scaled their wages accordingly unless they want to lose more tenured folks.

At this point you would have to be ideologically aligned with Target to own stock in it. They've been down since their bathroom debacle.

Cool, then they can go work elsewhere. If you have been working retail long enough to be at $11 an hour, you probably hate the world anyway.
