Is it common to wait this long on a ruling?

Yeah. That’s the June 22nd update. I was looking for the ruling on last weeks hearing.

It’s no secret that politicians, attorneys and LEO are corrupt in Tangipahoa Parish. You sound like one of the koolaid drinkers.

Young me aired out a bunch of this in the daily star about 20 years ago after I witnessed first hand the required bribing to do business or the sudden zoning/permit issues that would arise if not willing to play. It’s so prevalent that little old lady’s were holding their hands out to get their piece of the pie.

AMITE - A man who impregnated a 16-year-old girl over 15 years ago will no longer have custody of the child who was born as a result of that crime after a series of reports from the WBRZ Investigative Unit exposing the case.

quote:

Per Judge Jeffrey Cashe's ruling, the pair's daughter will remain with a third party who's housed the girl for over a month while the custody battle played out in court. Abelseth will be granted visitation one weekend each month and any other times approved by the girl's new guardians.

quote:

Barnes may not initiate contact with the girl, and he can only communicate with his daughter if she chooses to reach out to him first, according to court documents.

Jarrett Ambeau, Abelseth's attorney, released the following statement Friday.

I think the judge made a good ruling with regard to Mr. Barnes. It's the right outcome, should have been from the beginning.

As for my client's custody and visitation, I didn't hear sufficient evidence that she should not have custody of her child or at least be working toward having custody. We are disappointed that the third-party custodians have been granted sole custody on a permanent basis.

Crysta and I will talk about the outcome and make a decision on appealing that part of the judgment. She is very happy that the child will no longer be subject to visitation with Mr. Barnes.

Looks like the right outcome at this point. Judge Cashe still, by all accounts, seems like a good-ole-boy POS, so who knows how that affected the judgement on custody. But if the daughter is ok with this arrangement, that is all that really matters.

Surprising that the judge is only allowing one weekend visitation for the mom..

Well she did instruct her daughter in writing to fabricate rape allegations against her father and then lied to the court about it. Which is pretty fricking sick. And also lied about herself being forcibly raped. As per usual, looks like no real consequences for making false rape accusations and even pressuring your own daughter to do the same against her father.

Overall, a clear best interest of the child ruling, which is the way it should be. Clearly neither parent could provide the stability and peace needed.

Looks like Barnes is still on the hook for child support even though she doesn’t want anything to do with him.

From that article:

quote:

Barnes has never been charged with a crime

So, did he commit a crime or not? I have not followed this story

Yes he did, in that ignorance of being underage is no defense to the unlawful carnal knowledge of a juvenile statute.
