Gotcha. I don't remember which airline I was flying, seems like it was Delta, but he damn sure had that big arse retriever sitting on the floor if front of him. This was in first class, not sure if that makes any difference at all.

My guess is that the dog was a certified service dog. Meaning the passenger needed the dog for some disability, eg he is blind and it is his seeing eye dog. It is possible that it was one of the recent trend of having any animal deemed a service animal for just about any condition the passenger claims. I thought they were trying to crack down on that kind of nebulous thing.

frick off. Tons of stories of dogs dying in the cargo hold

The cargo holds are pressurized now and have conditioned/recirculating air. The animal is also the last one loaded/first one off. Your pet is more likely to get lost by not being loaded on the plane than they are to die - but some do still die.

No way I would want to chance either occurring though.

Why take it ? My daughter is super allergic and sitting on a plane with the animal would cause her severe breathing problems! The airlines are opening themselves up for a lawsuit sooner or later.

This. Dog owner here: leave your dog at home or stow the thing below deck.

In addition to the emotional support vest for your dog, they also sell certificates on Amazon. I don’t know if you’ll need it, but it’s probably not a bad idea to carry the certificate anyway.

Airlines can deny emotional support animals because they are not covered by the ADA.
