Have you ever seen the story of the Alaskan State Trooper who shot a guy from a chopper and the guy on the ground shot the Trooper with a 30.06 hunting rifle? Both died. Crazy story.

We get it. You are enthused. It was a clean kill and an absolutely necessary one but that man looking through his scope squeezed the trigger and took another mans life. I'm sure he didn't take that lightly and go home and high five his wife.

Say what? He's sleeping good at night I guarantee you.

He probably doesn't want his name publicized so he won't be targeted. Which is a fricking shame.

I wouldn't want people to know mine?

HE KILLED a guy. Absolutely justified and he saved lives, but any LEO's on here or Vets know a guy who killed a guy?

Seen many a vet talking on here. NEVER do they compare notes on who they've killed. And this is an anonymous message board.

This snipers friends were dead and dying and he had to kill a guy, and in the back of his mind he probably feels like he could have done more. Got there faster? Set up sooner? He's questioning something. Probably not the shot.

Some crackhead could be kicking my door in with a machete in his hand. I would blow his arse away with a shotgun, and probably puke or sit there shaking for 30 minutes.

Edited because I read it and it looked misleading. I've never shot a person. I am neither LEO or ex military.

It looked like I was trying to say that I had.

A Bullpup does NOT have the accuracy of an AR of similiar barrel length at distance.
While the Bullpup has the same barrel length it does not have the same distance between front and rear sights, thus making it much less accurate at distances greater than 100 yds. Throw in the fact that the perps gun had an Eotech sight on it, whisch is only worth a chit at closer ranges and you have a scenario where more than likely the perp was engaged with other officers and not the SWAT guy set up 200 yds away with a .338 Lapua. Factor in News reports say the perp had body armor on and my bet is SWAT guy smiled as soon as he pulled the trigger aiming center mass knowing his Lapua round would defeat any armor the perp was wearing
As for a head shot I highly doubt it,
The perps head would have literally exploded from that size round, thus making identification quite difficult

Really not that difficult of a shot TBH

Agree. With a suitabke scope the reticle is pretty damn small on a 100m target, even iron sights. Difficult shot ranges in this type of scenario without a sniper rifle would be 250m+. Kudos to him though.

Do we know that the SWAT shooter was shooting .338 lapua?

All that I heard is that he was a member of the SWAT team, not necessarily a sniper. If that's the case, he would have likely been shoot a 5.56 m4.

They supposedly removed identification from him on the scene and still had to get fingerprint verification from Missouri to fully confirm his identity. Sounds like his face may have been jacked up.

Wouldn't surprise me if he got a few extra rounds pumped into his corpse. Especially after he executed cops at point blank range

I'm just going with info from earlier in the thread saying the SWAT guy used a .338.

I would imagine , as you stated, most SWAT guys would be shooting modded M-4's, maybe a LaRue, etc.
Unless he was the teams dedicated sniper, in which case a .300 mag or .338 Lapua could be considered depending upon how hard a target they are engaging

The military is in the process of converting from 7,62x51 to 300 mag and .338 lapua.

There's quite a bit of variance in .338 rounds. I shoot a .338 win mag, you also have the ultra mag and the Lapua.

Indeed. Longest sniper kill recorded was with a Lapua.

I know one who was a Marine who saw alot of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and killed a couple of people. He has no remorse about it. If you kill someone who's an evil fricking scumbag, why would you feel guilt?

It's about time.

I've been saying this for years that almost all of the magnum rounds were better than the .308.

I believe the AR came before the M-16, and the military "version" of that rifle was based off of the civilian version.

Sort of. The AR-15 was developed in the late fifties to fit military specifications for an M14 replacement, but the Army got cold feet, so it got into civilian hands first. Then SOF types who had their choice of personal weapons started using it. Big Army started rolling it out to conventional troops around 1964, with many variations to fix problems that cropped up in the original design, mainly having to do with difficulty keeping it clean in harsh environments. The design was standardized in 67, and that's the version most are familiar with.
