Yep I can't even imagine the force generated when that wave crashes. I bet you would definitely be underwater for at least a minute. Geez watching that got me having flash backs to my bad wipeouts. I will stick with my 3-4 ft glass sets

Getting put through the washing machine sucks

One time I was under the water for 30 seconds or so as two big 10'ers crested on top of me out of nowhere. As long as you're a strong swimmer and can hold your breath for a minute or more you're golden

I'm guessing on the scale of stoked to boned, you were further toward the boned side of things.

That's incorrect. Big wave guys almost always use leashes these days. How do you think you even get outside at a spot like jaws on a day like that? There's no channel. They ditch ghe board, dive deep and hope their leashes holds.

Yeah I got dragged across the reef and my board came back and smacked me in the chest. I swore I'd broke my collarbone but it was just a nasty bruise.

Surfing is a lot of work

Three minutes is about all I could do. Those monster waves off the North Shore are a beast. Props to this dude.

No way he just went through that wall of water. He definitely got sucked up and held down for a good bit.

Its pretty rare to get held under for more than 30 seconds even in massive waves. It just seems like forever.
