WAFB reported on the 5:00 news this evening that the barge company has filed a motion to limit their liability to 1.5 million

“The barge company” didn’t do anything wrong. It was the boat company pushing the barge that’s at fault. Nothing to do with the barge company.

Google Gottwald Cranes and you’ll understand

I’d imagine they’ll need to build a cripple structure to accept the loads before disassembling the damaged pieces.

This will take time & money.

knowing construction and bridges, working around the clock, this should not take until January to fix.

I hope you’re right, Black Friday and holiday shopping is is going to be hell for small mom and pop stores. People will just order online to avoid the traffic.

People have already been doing that for the past 10 years.

The lower chords on these trusses are critical and have no backup structural members.
they are fracture critical but if there isn't any redundancy, the bridge would have collapsed but now..... Than can stiffen up members around it and remove that section and replace.

Yes, regardless, this is still going to hurt small local businesses. Some people rely on the holiday sales to stay open.

not saying it won't....I just know it shouldn't. That is if pockets aren't getting greased to push schedule.

If this happened to the "new" bridge, the economic effect on the US would be catastrophic with the commerce that travels I-10.

All the political powers to be are way to frickin stupid to realize this

Build the loop............ yea its too late....

I have two separate friends that are attorneys already post on social media they are taking people who "have been harmed by the closing of the bridge"

If you ever need an attorney don’t use these friends.

If the member is in tension it can still be performing enough to hold. I'd assume if it was in compression it would have fully buckled.
