I get that but putting all of your booty on one boat makes my peg leg tingle.

I think they have their numbers wrong...at $15,000 per pound, you're talking something in the range of 36 tons of gold...

Huh?

A) Gold is roughly $1225/oz, which is $19,600/lb

B) 36 tons at $15,000 per pound is $1,080,000,000, which is still less than 1% of what they say it's worth

C) At today's exchange rates for gold and British Pounds to USD, that ship would have been carrying 3,341 tons of gold

Seems like Russia would fall under the "Losers/Weepers" category on this.

To further point out how ridiculous this estimate is, that would be 1.8% of all the gold ever mined in the world (through today) on one ship.

ETA - That much gold would have taken 6-8 years to be mined from ALL of the world's gold mines in the early 1900s.

So?

Everybody knows the crew spent money like drunken sailors.

Actually the Romanov family is the rightful owner of the gold.
