Where was the $12 billion going to? 90 odd team owners?
I’m just as pissed about sports not happening as the next guy, but I’m not shedding a tear for Jerry Jones not making his customary $500 million this year and having to pay for his Botox, Johnny Walker Blue, and hookers out of his savings account
fricking liberals

So If you say I don’t care if a billionaire makes $500 million you’re a liberal?
I‘m not worried about asking for a little nuance in an article talking about the distribution of $12 billion dollars.

I think that your lack of an understanding of basic economics probably has more to do with it.

The $12 billion figure is a matter of perspective. If you are one of the lucky few who can make your living off sports, ok I’ll buy that. If you’re like the rest of us, it is a savings of $12 billion dollars.

I’m willing to admit I’m ignorant of “basic economics” regarding TV rights, stadium deals, sponsorships, labor negotiatons for multiple different sport industries and god knows what else, but you’re the idiot if you think a lack of knowledge favors one side of the political spectrum over the other.
Politics doesn’t play favorites & dumb people exist on both sides.

I probably should have been more specific. It was the nature of your misunderstanding that probably led that poster to assume you were a liberal.
Yes, folks on the far right have can often have their own odd way of viewing the economy, but liberals have a tendency to be “meh” about economic losses at an industry-level because it “only hurts rich people”.
In reality, service workers, restaurants, hotel workers, people who are employed by local governments that rely on tax revenue that won’t be collected, etc are going to feel that pain waaaay worse than Jerry Jones who, like others have said, is still going to make money either way.

That’s simply not how it works.
If $$$ is not circulated, there is money (real earnings) lost. Like the article stated, restaurants, hotels, workers, vendors, farmers and purveyors, etc.
Semi-complex stuff here amigo.

According to PFT there's only a "small" chance the 2020 NFL season doesn't happen. Not sure if I posted this here or just discussed it with my wife... the league schedule being released is going to signal if they'll play or not. The minute they release a schedule the players have them by the short hairs. Up until then the owners can actually frick the players over and treat 2020 as if it never happened (toll their contracts.) The TV money is too big so I think it's maybe 5% no season, 75% games but no fans, 15% 1/3 capacity, and 5% anything 1/2 to full capacity.
I was just reading an article the lefties at VFN turned into their big headline "What happens if a coronavirus vaccine is never developed?" At that point I say F all this curve crap...if it gets me I'll get a few cases of Corona to enjoy while I'm going down. I've already made my contribution to humanity with my athletic kid. (Oddly I started putting together oral histories via camcorder a few years back so not much more left to pass down by being around.)

The money is not lost, it’s directed somewhere else. I have a budget for play money. If I was spending x amount of dollars for tickets, team apparel, etc, and it’s gone, I’m still going to spend that play money somewhere else. The money is not gone, just spent elsewhere (and of course I’m not talking about people that have been laid off)
