On a hopeful note, this is a good thing. There are too many people on this planet and Mother Nature will do her thing by thinning the heard.
Usually wars and famine would keep the population in check, however we have not had those for some time. This is actually a cleaner way to population control.
I loved the premise of the Dan Brown book Inferno. Most of our world problems would be removed with less people around.
