Boomers won’t retire because they don’t have any money after being in the workforce for 40+ years. This is a no shite study. They’re the most selfish and foolish group of people around while being full of some bullshite bravado about being a corporate slave into their 70s. Real morons

We are only talking about one side of the boomers then.

Theres a big group that dont work and have swaths of cash through investing plus now benefits.

More responsible.

You shouldnt tip more than 18% unless the person was outstanding. I even tip less for terrible service.

For the record I am a great tipper, I believe in tipping.

I live by the VInnie Vincenzo rule.

I tip where necessary but am overly proud to not tip when not necessary.

The girl at the airport snack spot counter had a glass jar by her register that said ‘Tips’. Yea, I’m not paying $4.00 for a water then leaving you a tip for doing nothing. I also let her know that so it was crystal clear.

Sad thing was there was money in the jar.

If my mom ever takes us out to dinner, I always bring extra cash for the tip.
She'll drop a $5 tip on a $100 meal every time.
"It shouldn't be based on the dollar amount" is what she says.

When you keep increasing the tips you are also increasing the server (often younger and less wise) expectations over time.

Then you are in this situation where 15%, which was good, is getting you called cheapskate.

Thats just not fair.

Doubtful.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Baby Boomers (born 1946-1964):
This generation is known for being one of the most philanthropic, contributing a large portion of charitable donations.
Older Adults (65+):
Individuals in this age group are consistently found to be more likely to give to charity, often having more time, savings, and motivation to help others.
Giving Peaks:
Giving often peaks between ages 61-75.

Above is from various AI compilations, but anyone in finance knows Boomers are generous and will leave more wealth than any previous generation.

But I aint tipping you for making change or selling me a pack of Marlboro Reds.

Not shocked by this.

They are products of the folks who endured the Great Depression. So they learned to try and be in front of the bread line and like to tell everyone else 'how hard they had it', even though it's not their actual reality.

The tipping practices of the Canadian snowbirds would make the American boomer blush. They are the absolute worst.

Boomers keep showing they are the soft men who created hard times. The wealthiest generation who stole the wealth from their grandkids and left them with the debt while they hoard every last dollar they can to the grave.

And on top of all that they raised people like you who whine about everything. fricking boomers man, just the worst

The ones that I work with go out to eat and are actively looking for petty reasons to not tip.

so the people who live with their parents and usually don't pay bills or are still getting money from their parents tip better with their parents money

I would rather see a tip breakdown by race than age.

Millennials and Gen Z tip well because they sympathize with the server. They know how hard it is to pay bills and how much servers depend on those tips. Because many of us also was or are on that same situation.

Meanwhile boomers can’t even comprehend helping others

Still gotta see that runway at some point, sooner than later.

If you see a 182 w/ 2 big ol' spotlights hanging off the fuselage and a nekkid lady painted on the nose, that'll be me

This, plus a trend of tips now being expected rather than earned, is why people tip less IMO.

If you aren't trying to do a good job and earn a tip as a server, then you're doing it wrong IMO.

I kinda agree. It takes the same amount of effort to carry $70 steak to the table as it does to bring $15 salad. They both come on one plate.

tipping in the US is ooc, I'm a boomer by dob definition, generous af and have always been a pretty big tipper but I'm dialing it back because of the in your face , obnoxious, whiny little punks who want me to fund their lack of desire, ambition, education, and lifestyle for doing little to nothing
