I agree. The whole thing of making *all* kids go through 13 years of college prep classes is creating a lot of people only qualified to work fast food. Everyone isn’t suited for college and that should be ok.
Most education officials are over educated women who place a ton of value on getting a degree. The idea that some kids either aren’t capable of college or just simply don’t want to go to college is incomprehensible to them. Once again the solution is to end the matriarchy that has become US public education.

Yep, the one size fits all approach just creates good corporate workers. Its a day prison for the rest.

This is astounding! After letting kids go to "school" on a laptop in their pajamas for two years with zero consequences if they fail, they now no longer want to sit in a classroom and, you know.... try.
Remarkably similar to adults after WFH, no?

It is high time that we re-tooled our education system.
It’s a shame public schools are a joke. You simply have to go private school at this point. Even those are turning though

Its the easiest degree one can get. I know, I have one.
Sociology might be easier, but its close.

No, they're just not meant to be scholars. They need action, motion.
There’s a vast difference between someone being a scholar and someone learning basic reading and writing and math.

We were talking about the ability to sit still in a seat for one to two hours.

Which kids should know by the time they leave middle school, but instead you see high school graduates who can’t read or add.

Seems as if most of the teachers "teach" by pointing to the lesson in their online portal and tell them to complete the work.
You've described my son's geometry class, there is an online portal with the assignments but there is nothing but the assignments. There are no powerpoints, videos, notes or tools to help you with the assignments. We have had to resort to using Youtube videos in order to get help with the assignments.

Pre-pandemic it feels as if the portal was a supplement to actual classroom teaching, now it has replaced it as the main tool.
Teachers will respond to kids now with "Did you check the online portal?"

When you encourage mental softness vs mental toughness this is what you get.

The average adult in the USA has reads between 7th and 8th grade
Not much is accomplished beyond that

A good chunk of it is kids whose parents just throw their hands up at any sign of resistance from their kid.
I've had clients like this in the past. They'd complain their kid is refusing to go to school but then the kid would still be allowed to hang out with friends, would have their cellphone, would be allowed to stay home all day and watch TV/play video games.
The first thing I'd recommend is to make staying home as boring (or as difficult) as possible. No cell phone, no TV, no internet. Take away the things like hanging out with friends on the weekend and make them earn that privilege. Legally, all parents have to do is provide a safe place to live and food to eat.
The kid would usually end up going to school within about a week or so. But only if the parent stood their ground.

Maybe I’m missing your point, but schools have always involved parents in enforcing their rules. That’s become even more necessary as disciplining the student at school has almost been completely taken away from school personnel. You think that you’re fatigued in trying to correct your own child’s behavior? Grab some of trying to correct the behavior of 125 kids with very few tools in your arsenal to do so.
Yeah I guess I didn’t make myself clear. I suppose a better explanation is that “reportable offenses” seem to have increased. Like my kid gets notes home all the time, and he gets punished for it. Then on his report card, he gets pretty good behavior marks, then I talk to other parents and it’s boys and every one of them gets notes constantly.

Parents with different expectations, for the most part. When you’re coming out of your own pocket to fund your child’s education, you tend to make sure that they’re doing what they need to do.

And a private school can easily dump a truant kid. At least the ones here having attendance expectations to continue to attend.
In a public school, you can't kick a kid out over not coming to school.

It's amazing how we managed to go to school in the 80s and 90s and "sit through" class every day with no issues because our parents raised us as children and not as their best friend.
