When I was a Comp Sci major, required ENGL included two composition courses. Was 1001 and 1002. They changed 1002 to 2000 later.
There was also a required literature course. (Maybe two? I remember taking two, though I may have just withdrawn from one.) Fiction, Poetry, and... the other one. They were something like 2055, 2057, or 2059.

Exactly. I went to Community College because that is what I could afford. I don't feel sorry for these people. I guess going to college doesn't make you smart.

My atmospheric science degree required 2 Englishes and a lit course along with fricking music appreciation and a biology. I think I totaled up that I wasted 30 hours on bs shite that had nothing to do with my major.

No, due to the South having the highest number of college students in general…

I don't know that it is true either, but the reason a higher number of students would cause a higher default rate is more students means you are going farther down the talent curve to get them, so more of the lesser ones will default.
It is like how some states you wouldn't expect used to have high SAT scores because most of their students took the ACT and only their best students took the SAT.

What are we going to end up doing to fix this issue?
why do we need to fix it?
They borrowed it they need to pay it back.

Poster meant “going forward.” There needs to be some major changes. The universities need to be responsible for student loans, not the US gov.

Majority is a mixture of people who just don't want to and those that took out absolutely ludicrous amounts of money to major in things that have no realistic prospect of earning potential to match the amount of debt incurred.
The cost of a college education now needs to be addressed. It's gotten absurd. There are quite a few fields I don't have a problem with "forgiveness" but almost in a way I view the GI Bill. If you want to go to college for free, okay, sure....you must go into ______ field after graduation for _____ years of employment. Once your commitment is done, your loan/debt is forgiven and you can enter whatever field you want.

The four year degree was not designed as a job training program. That it has become that is one of the problems.
