Another special mission will be flown overnight and should be ingested by 12z tomorrow:

quote:

The NOAA43 hurricane hunter aircraft will fly into the tropical disturbance located in southeastern Bahamas. The aircraft will take off at 2:00AM eastern time for a eight hour mission to and from MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL. The goal is to collect data in and around the tropical disturbance. Below is the flight track. The dots on the flight track (shown in green) represent the aircraft turn points. The red dots in the figure show the locations that launch weather balloons twice a day while the purple dots are the locations that launch balloons once a day.

What's the difference between the NOAA hurricane hunters and the USAF hurricane hunters. Do they have the same mission or do they look for different things?

ETA: I've read that Cuba has some kickass meteorologists. Hopefully the thaw in relations will result in an exchange of information.

I don't know the different details between them but am working this week with a guy that flew missions and will ask him tomorrow. I do know that the Global Hawk flies missions that are different than the other planes.

Last GFS run brought it to New Orleans as a TD and then moved it back SE to Tampa as a TS. For the HWRF, it is pretty much a fools errand to try and guess what a model will show before the data is spit out.

The HWRF isn't really that far-fetched.
