re: State Farm homeowners insurance is worthless paying claims

Loss of utilities is generally not considered a LOU claim although some policies have some wiggle room there. This is the big problem with LaDestroya not issuing a mandatory evacuation—that would have triggered many LOU provisions in insurance policies.
But, to your other point, State Farm is horrible on claims. I’d proceed under the assumption that you’ll have to go to court to get what they owe and just be pleasantly surprised if you don’t.
Can’t stress this enough: Document. Every. Single. Thing. If you have a call with your adjuster, send an email confirming your understanding of what they said on the call.

State Farm is hot garbage. This has been stated on this board time and time again.

None of that was in their 2-sentence denial letter however.
It doesn’t have to be in the letter if it is clearly worded on the policy. The policy is the legal contract, so you should read through the policy and see if you can find the coverage within that document. Then, resubmit your claim.

Yep, found this out the hard way. Was told that my policyholder bill of rights only extends to written details of why my policy may be canceled or non-renewed, but as a claimant I am not rightfully entitled to exact details of why my claim was denied...only general terms that then tell me to refer back to the contact and to GFM lol.
I feel like Jake and SF bent me over and had their way with me, didn't even bother taking me out to a steak dinner before they John Holmes my precious butthole. Oh well, live and learn but I'll be ready for them next go round.

I screwed up. I honestly thought I was home free (no pun intended) with loss of water, never read the policy that clearly states a loss of utility must be from a damaged peril. I honestly appreciate everyone in this thread, they hit the nail on the head with this as we're all going through different but similar circumstances in South La. over the last 2 crazy hurricane seasons. This thread has allowed me to vent but also setting me straight at the same time which is a testament to the OT. I appreciate y'all!
