Pretty sure you are witnessing the new age marketing; get someone to viralize your brand.
1. get someone, like an employee, to go nuts while not bashing the product itself,
2. propagate the material via social media,
3. sit back wand watch the sheep get in line to see what the hell it's all about,
4. don't reprimand the "rogue" employee, but invite him to meet upper management to get ground level input.
I'm not a Starbucks person, but have to admit it's pretty clever.
