I want to start reading the Star Wars books, but I am not sure where to start. There seems to be a few different sets. Any suggestions?

They're not canon anymore, just FYI. The upcoming movie will not follow any of those storylines.

I enjoyed The Thrawn series.

none of the old books are canon. The only things that are is whatever was published since Disney acquired the rights

Man the X-Wing series was pretty great. It's been years since I've read them but i have very fond memories. Shadows of the empire might be a good starting point as well. Sort of takes place between empire and return of the jedi

Here's a list of the books in chronological order by when they happen in the Star Wars overall story line....

As other's have already said, virtually none of these are still canon except the books that went with the movies. But, they're still great reads for the most part. I especially enjoyed the Darth Bane series.

Right on. Darth Bane series is a great read. He was a bad mofo. The story of his life from common laborer to sith lord is awesome.

I have to agree on the Darth Bane series. I also enjoyed the Republic Commando series. It showed that even though the clone troopers were bred for war, they were still human and had minds and feelings of their own.
