Kind of an interesting situation here.
St. Joesph’s students who just returned from Italy temporarily not allowed to return to school

St. Joseph’s Academy says it will not allow a group of its students and teachers who recently returned from Italy to attend school or school-related functions for 14 days.
The school says this is a precaution because there have been multiple cases of coronavirus in Italy. None of the St. Joseph’s students or teachers have exhibited any symptoms.

“While in Italy, they remained in the southern portion of the country and were not near any area affected by the virus,” St. Joseph’s Academy spokeswoman, Mindy Averitt, said Monday.

But they had no issues with them going in the first place I guess?

good...until they definitively don't have COVID19, they should stay at home

There are multiple cases in the US already. By that standard nobody should be in school.

So quarantine everyone coming in from overseas.
It's either all or nothing. This is pointless.

330,000,000 +/- in the United States.
2? deaths, so far? How many total cases?
Overreaction by media. Why?

I live on RI border; these people, including the positive case(s) have been intermingling for weeks with the community at large. It’s a done deal. Just have to wait and see how bad this thing actually is.

Do their parents and siblings still go to work and school? What if they have a sibling at St. Joseph?

Italy has the 3rd highest amount of cases in the world. I don't think having these kids do their classwork from home for 2 weeks is that big of an ask.

So we're quarantining every person flying back from Italy, right?

My company is doing that along with a handful of other countries

Exactly. The quarantine strategy is a God-damn piece of swish cheese; either intact a blanket travel ban or don’t - enough with this selectiveness. Especially when we know carriers can be essentially asymptomatic for a period.

Personally I think this is an over-reaction, but I have to imagine that if they were allowed back to school immediately there would be dozens of parents beating down the doors trying to talk to the head of school.
Me thinks this is less about the students and more about keeping the other parents happy.

Precisely. Just like the news I just heard that a certain grocery chain is ceasing all demo/sampling chain wide as of today.
That way, I only have to worry about someone sneezing around me, not directly on my sample of cheese.
If they actually gave a frick, they'd close the store completely.

Just in the US?
