SR-71 Speed check story as told by pilot

I haven't seen an SR-71 thread posted for a while, I thoroughly enjoy hearing these stories even though I am not a pilot nor ever served in the armed forces. If this one has already been posted I apologize, I searched SR-71 and did not see this one posted.

That was one of the parts of the book 'sled driver' that stuck out to me. I loved that story

I heard one about an SR-71 pilot requesting an altitude check. The air traffic controller replied that he was at 80,000 feet. Another plane came on the radio and asked what the hell he was flying that could climb to 80,000 and the SR-71 pilot replied that he was not climbing to 80,000 feet, he was descending to 80,000. Radio silence.
