Russian, you have made a fool of yourself in these threads. Everyone sees it.

But please, you're welcome make the argument that he isn't acting immaturely in this thread. Good luck.

Have you called a St. Georgian a racist lately?

I've never once done this

This evidently is quite the touchy issue here and it would be pretty cool to see the Anti ST. George people be a little nicer about things instead of always attacking.
This.
It's hard to appreciate the fact that history is being made right in front of us when specific posters can't stop the personal attacks and insults.
It's very likely that we are in the process of witnessing the establishment of Louisiana's newest city. A relatively small group of people are very close to getting 18,000 signatures from registered voters out of subset of just 110,000 residents....all just to get this issue on a ballot. That's an impressive and admirable grassroots movement that you don't have to agree with to appreciate. We should discuss this without derailing the thread into a pissing match.

you can keep saying it but it will never make it true.

I never said that.

It was Sprocket and he is definitely NOT anti-St George.

They have mine as well, along with some other friends and we dont even live in the proposed area. A few dont even live in the parish anymore

The fact that the organizers are not telling their citizens the truth about the financing necessary to run a new city and any new school district ("no new taxes needed") is really my main opposition to their campaign.
They have been lying about that from the very beginning. If they told the truth, they knew they could never get any significant support.

That's probably a couple thousand signatures right there!
Yeah, there is no way there numbers are accurate. They are gonna need more than 20k to reach a safe number if they need to get over 18k that actually reside in the proposed area

What do you think their motivation is for not telling the truth on the financing needed?

It makes the incorporation effort seem so much more attractive. If someone told me that Baton Rouge could have a great school system and improved government services without increasing taxes, I'd think that was pretty swell.

Yea that seems obvious but the truth would come out eventually and there would be hell to pay. Who would gain what by lying about what its going to cost? I'm trying to understand Russian's perspective on the StG leadership.
I own property in the proposed city and have a child that will be school aged in about 2 years. We may or may not be able to afford private school so I favor as many options as possible. I would even support raising taxes if it meant better schools. I 'm not completely sold on the StG initiative but I support letting let it go to a vote.

How do you think the StG leadership would handle the backlash if the numbers come out that show it will cost more?

I'd pay a lot more to break away from those shite heads in charge of BR.
Posted on 7/15/14 at 4:02 pm to White Shadeaux
I would pay more in property taxes as well but I suspect that a lot of the potential voters and supporters of StG would not.

I can't decide of the leaders of the movement are intentionally being dishonest or if they just don't know any better. Based on what I've read, the leaders appear to lack the proper judgment that I would expect from someone with whom I would trust the power to run a city.
