1. Billions of Dollars of Federal Money to build an unsustainable medical center.
2. Bohemians doing whatever they do because they admire the unique primitivism of the city, and declare the parts of the city that generate income not cool and the areas that don't cool.
3. The future is the past? The desire to renovate a building designed for commerce into a hotel.

The WTC deal still kind of pisses me off. We have companies willing to invest hundreds of million dollars here and the city will not finish the "deal" and get the fck out of the way to let someone proceed with the development.

To be fair, by breaking ties with gatehouse and restarting the development process, the city is getting a lot more rent and a better name hotel (four seasons > W)

Cities all over convert offices to hotels. The highest and best use of a building changes over time. I'm not saying that New Orleans is tearing it up in white collar jobs, but old office buildings are just not a good measuring stick.
