Even if you go to Florida today, their seems to be a very different atmosphere of people vs LA, TX, MS, etc.
I think it depends on where you are. The panhandle is definitely very southern. The East coast is plastic and superficial. The West coast has a very different attitude. People on the west coast are more laid back. It seems everyone there rides a Harley, and is more of a retirement haven. I personally prefer the West coast of Florida over other areas of the state.

This is correct. The Northern part is a a Southern state.
South Florida is a combination of New York and South America.

I would say the certain cities (Miami, Tampa, Orlando, etc.), no. Outside of the major cities (Gainesville, Ocala, Pensacola, etc.), definitely yes.
Florida as a whole, I don't really consider to be the South. Too many transplants.

West of the Sewanee and down to around Chiefland, yes.

Living in Jax for over 20 years, I used to consider everything north of Orlando still southern. That is changing a lot with so many northerners moving here in Jax.

Is Virginia still considered Southern?
The eastern half doesn't feel southern at all.

I'm from Miami and the only southern thing about South Florida is its geographic location. Calling someone from South Florida a southerner is like calling an elephant born in a tree a bird.
