I like some of the older ones. My favorite is the Gold Rush Cemetery and the "Avalanche" Cemetery a few miles north of here, interesting headstones.

What is really cool if you are into your family genealogy is to discover where your ancestors are buried and travel to visit their graves. Some of mine that were born in the early to mid 1700s were in very old cemeteries. One is in a day use park in Bartow County, Ga. Another is in woods behind an old farmhouse in Paulding County. Had to ask permission to visit that one and it was all grown over. I didn't see a death date after 1870 in that one. I have great great grandparents buried in Jones Family Cemetery in a WalMart parking lot in Summerville, SC. LOL. Walmart tried to move the cemetery but the family won so the 8-10 graves are in a little island out front by the road.

It is a fun side project for people into their genealogy.

Visited this one in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. The back rows were for kids, always a sad thing to see especially when you see toddler's toys placed on top of the actual tomb. The ground is solid rock, hence the above-ground tombs.

Surprised you aren't out there with a shovel trying to dig old Jeff Davis up and chuck him into the river.

No, that was at home. I've never really had negative experiences in cemeteries.

Went to the pioneer cemetery in Idaho City, just north of Boise a couple of years back. I thought it was really cool to be surrounded by all of that history of the early mining pioneers.

I've been to Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, GA twice now. It's beautiful.

What's odd is cemeteries out in the woods that are unmaintained and abandoned. We had one on an old hunting lease. Most of the people were buried in the 1800s.
Kinda sad they just left out there completely unknown to their relatives

Any chance this hunting lease is near Lecompte/Forest hill, La?

During the height of the 12 Years a Slave movie hubbub, my family learned that an ancestor (my great great great grandfather) had helped Northup. We searched for months to find his grave with no luck, but were able to find his daughter (gggrandmother) in an abandoned cemetery on a current hunting lease. A century ago, it was a little sawmill town that just dried up. Pretty awesome to visit it.

I like old cemeteries a lot...old headstones were so much more descriptive than todays and you can figure out quite a bit about the folks and the society by just reading them.

A few years back while hunting, I stumbled across an old grave from the 1800's...I didn't think too much of it until a year later when I was in the same area, I found that during the summer someone of the same last name had been buried directly beside the other grave...the dates were over 100 years apart!

I visit the Davis Cemetery in Abita Springs and the Core Cemetery in Folsom quite often. Have lots of family buried in both. I also like veterans' cemeteries to see those who may have actually fallen in battle. A lot of my wife's people are buried in the Chenal Cemetery in Pointe Coupee Parish. The tombstones written in French are interesting.

Ugh.. Dude. Can't you just post the cool pics with a short comment or two? Do most of your posts always have to lead to your self indulgent shite?
